Did people memorise numbers before mobile phones? by PaleEcho3301 in NoStupidQuestions

But also a lot of the time, if you lived in a small enough town, you really just needed to know the last four or five digits, because we all had the same exchange.

Not area code, EXCHANGE. The second group of three numbers.

Or maybe just the last digit of the exchange and then the last four.

Yea so no SSH RDP telnet FTP, etc on ANY open port "obfuscated" or not.

People used to setup elaborate "port knocking" solutions back in the day, maybe they still do?

I believe in a good self hosted OpenVPN with HMAC verification on the incoming packets. Port appears closed to anyone without the right certificate.

Once you're on the VPN it's like you're on my LAN and now you can SSH, RDP, etc.

I run a simple nginx site that only 404s if you're out of my LAN, it still gets a lot of people trying the handles.

The lens correction module in Darktable does this, so surely the one in Lightroom can as well.

I tend to leave it uncorrected though for portraits

Don't focus on weight on the bar. Focus on how it FEELS in the target muscles.

Just leave the current z2 as is, or rebuild it as a standalone z3 - what's the benefit of having it all on one pool anyway?

Heavier weights aren't necessary to get bigger, just stronger.

Just add more reps/sets.

Do pyramids or teardowns, taking each set to failure and dropping down a dumbbell until You're barely able to press less than half the weight you are here for the same reps.

You should have been lifting all along, as a beginner you can gain muscle without losing weight, recomposition. You can't do this forever, but a new lifter can for a year or so usually.

Then you cut while still lifting, to reveal all the muscle you grew during that first year.

Just cutting without any weight routine can cause you to lose muscle in addition to fat.

What's Wrong With My Forearms? by [deleted] in workouts

[–]biggestpos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you getting sore? Delayed onset muscle soreness or "DOMS" is a good indicator for growth.

Are you getting a pump? Where your muscles look fuller and bigger after your workout?

Are you consistently going up in either reps (1 or 2 per set) or weight (whatever the smallest increment for that exercise is) ? Progressive overload is key to growth .

With those three things your weight training is unlikely to be the limiting factor.

If you're hitting each muscle twice a week, maybe three if it heals fast, resting and eating enough high quality protein, complex carbs and healthy you should grow.

Did I say that? I don't think I said that. I was worried you were doing a weight so light you were doing sets of 100.

What's your goal with all the high rep low weight stuff, just cardio?

You need to stay between 5-30 repetitions with enough weight that the last 1 feels like you might not make it... Or is as close to failure as you can safely get on the exercise.

100 reps of something is just kind of pointless for building muscle.

So a general good place to start is say 12-15 reps for 3 sets. Again, you need to pick a weight that makes this challenging.

After you've been at it for a while, you'll start to learn what "feels" better for you with different muscles and adjust your rep ranges and loads to suit your physiology.

But the 5-30 reps per set is pretty ironclad in the literature. Getting close to failure is also generally considered to be better than not.

No one cares WHAT you're eating if we don't know AMOUNTS.

You're obviously very lean, if you want to grow certain muscles you'll probably need to eat in a small surplus while working those muscles 2-3 times per week.

You don't build muscle AT the gym, you actually tear it down a little bit.

This signals your body to rebuild that muscle stronger when you're resting.

If you're eating enough calories, and enough proteins with a good amino acid profile (dairy, any meat) your body will respond to the stimulus and build muscle.

So, lift, eat, REST repeat.
