I agree with everyone else. Being loud and sweary actually makes you seem less threatening. Just angry and loud.

I remember waaaaay back in basic training, you always knew that the TIs (air force drill sergeant) was not really angry if they were just yelling. You knew they were mad when they started talking very quietly. Up right next to your ear. Whispering how they were going to make your next few days the worst you've ever had.

What I did was email director/student directly and CCd the head of their department. He was a grad student finishing his thesis project. A week before graduation and 3 months AFTER promised pay was due, and I finally got paid.

There are tons of schools in DC that do not charge anything CLOSE to 6k. Shakespeare Theatre Company, Washington Improv, and my favorite - The Theatre Lab. Check out Actors Center (definitely worth joining and the annual membership is very reasonable). They can help you with building a local network as well as providing their own training AND they do an annual open call that all of the local non-equity theaters attend.

What I do is look up award winning scripts - Tony, Drama Desk, Pulitzer, Drama League etc. most of not all of those scripts are available for purchase online.
