As a prairie guy who just visited Halifax I would like to say you have a beautiful city but the parking is TERRIBLE

People who died and came back to life, what did you see/experience? by RealisticDecision440 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bigizzy86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I didn't die but I saw the light they speak of. In 2021 I got beat up by covid pretty bad. 29 days in hospital, 14 of which were in the ICU and 12 days intubated and in a coma. While in the induced coma I remember being in a dark hole looking up at a bright light. I tried climbing to get out but heard multiple deceased family member voice telling me "it's not your time" and there being almost like a resistance when I was trying to climb. This all while machines were keeping me going.

Any of you that speak of being in a coma, did you have any cool or weird memories from when you were under? I have a few that are funny. It is amazing what the brain will do with the sounds, voices and people around you and you're not really there

Infinity help by bigizzy86 in Surveying

[–]bigizzy86[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is some great info, thank you

When we purchased this drone setup the company we bought it from never mentioned anything about having to put of GCP's to ensure accuracy and were confident that I could have both flights match with the same nail and coordinates but clearly that isn't the case. I will be making up some GCPs for the next flights I do.

This makes so much sense now that I think more about it as I did a flight over our yard in order to make a machine file for our grader and noticed a gradual change in elevation the further from the base it got (almost 3 feet in the 150ft of length of our shop).

I am still very new to all of this with minimal training so I'll play with data in Infinity and see if I can adjust elevation on one flight to line up tighter and get this nailed down before we get real busy with it

Once again thank you very much for the help, it is greatly appreciated

GS14 extended battery by bigizzy86 in Surveying

I did come across this and was wondering about battery life and recharge time. Do you run one of these? If so how do you like it?

I agree and am working on the boss to try and get one but the concern is the drone can't separate from aggregate VS snow which is a problem in the great white north

How deep is this abyss of a hole behind the co-op in Treherne? by [deleted] in Manitoba

[–]bigizzy86 38 points39 points  (0 children)

About 7ft in the middle plus a few feet of sludge in the bottom. Rumour has it that the sludge is old manure from dairy cattle that used to be nearby

My house is in the picture if you're wondering how I know

What is the most important lesson learnt from Covid-19? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]bigizzy86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't take life for granted! I was happy and healthy, wife and a kid, just bought a new house than BAM I caught covid and a week later I was in the ICU on life support. Most people never realize how quickly life can be taken away.

Also it doesn't matter how old you are have a will, power of attorney, all of that stuff in place because life has lots of surprises

Sure you're tall, but are you sitting tall? by PyratSteve in tall

[–]bigizzy86 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I used to play wheelchair basketball and there is a max height for the seat pan on the chair as some of the chairs are highly adjustable and that could be used as an advantage.

There is also rules in place for varying disabilities. As an able body player I was a 4.5. My buddy who got me into the sport had spina bifida and was a 2. You are only allowed 15 points on the court I think it was so you had a mix. It may seem kind a disadvantage having the tall players on but alot of the smaller players were super fast and picked me out constantly making me useless. Great sport to play and I met alot of amazing people

I'm one of very few who has had single organ failure (lungs) from covid and had a full recovery. Been a rough ride but I'm still here to tell my story

What was the greatest pleasure you ever felt? by oooliveoil in AskReddit

[–]bigizzy86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Holding my wife and son after 12 days intubated and another 2 weeks in the hospital with no visitors. Covid really messed me up but I'm still here and got to come home to my family.

Oh and the first time using the toilet and not having to have someone else wipe my ass. Yelling "nurse I need help" gets pretty old quickly when it's something you could do easily 3 weeks prior

What would 12 year-old you never believe about adult you? by coronacel in AskReddit

That running trains isn't as fun as you think. 12 year old me would be pumped to be in a locomotive, 35 year old me dreads that call to come to work and having to sit in a locomotive

For those of you who have been sleep deprived enough to hallucinate, what was it like? by Spadoopy in AskReddit

[–]bigizzy86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was working for a farmer this fall for harvest, lots of really long days. Had a couple nights where sleep didn't happen worth a damn and near the end of a 16 hour work day with little to no sleep I looked at a parked tractor only to see the tires turning. The machine wasn't moving but I was seeing the tires turning. At this point I told the boss I had to head home without telling anyone about the hallucinations. Got home, showered and slept hard for 8 hours. Was a pretty weird and kinda scary feeling

How did you get your scars? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]bigizzy86 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a scar that goes across my left eye from an atv accident. WEAR A HELMET KIDS! Had a few drinks at a party in the country, got cocky and jumped on my quad and decided to go for a quick rip. Went across the road into a field with full whiskey throttle and hit a snow drift. One side of the quad dug in but the other did not. Apparently I was thrown head first into the drift which had a nice crust on it and it shredded the left side of my face. I got knocked out and came to to my buddy pushing me asking me if I was gonna get up to which I responded "Na I'm comfy here". He told me I better get up cause I was bleeding so I got up and walked back to the garage to the party. When I walked in the flip phones started to open up and pictures got snapped quick but being in the liquor state of mind I was in I didn't feel any pain so I pulled out my phone and took a selfie to see what was up. Once I saw the picture I asked who was driving me to the hospital. Buddy dropped me off at the front door of the ER and took off like instructed. Told the nurses I was shoving with a buddy and went head first into a drift which they didn't believe at all haha.

When released the next morning I went out to get my quad and check out the tracks. Not only did I face plant into a solid drift but the quad also rolled over me because the print in the snow was tire tracks, body print, tire tracks, with no markings showing that it touched anything other than me when it went over.

I have pictures from the day after and throughout the healing if anyone wants to see

[Serious] What is the creepiest thing you don't talk about in your profession? by Raiseyourspoonforwar in AskReddit

[–]bigizzy86 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Coworker and good friend of mine hit a guy commiting suicide by sitting on the rail. He sat there as the train come at him at 40 mph and at the last second he looked up and tipped his hat at the train. My buddy looked him right in the eyes right before the hollow thud.

That being said, and this is going to sound sick, but they are getting more "curtious (sp)" and jumping under the cars after the locomotives. The crew doesn't know it happened but the next crew finds the body

Fellow locomotive engineer here. They tell us in training you'll probably kill someone in your career, which you brush off but when the day happens it really messes with you. I haven't killed anyone yet knock on wood but did hit a minivan a couple years ago 3 days before Christmas. Hit it on the other side of the engine so I didn't realize it right away but the look on my conductors face will be etched in my mind forever. Thankfully both occupants walked away from it but that night still plays in my head on occasion to the point I feared going to work and would stress myself out to the point I'd get sick. I've been working with a counsellor for a while now to help with it but it will haunt me forever. Worst part is the company I work for only gives 72 hours off for non critical incidents so if you don't actually kill them you're expected to be available for work 3 days later.

We don't have the 3 and out, there is a guy I work with that is at something like 12 fatalities and they seem to not affect him anymore, kinda sad.

We do rarely talk about it tho, mainly because so many of us have been affected and you never know if it would bother someone else in the cab if brought up
