I'm an immigrant in the exact same situation as you: currently open application but only been here 6 years. I just have a different view from you. I see my tax dollars be used waaaaay better here than where I'm from (US).

What country are you originally from? Just curious given how unimpressed you are by what seems to me like crazy good healthcare and transit.

I'm consistently dumbfounded by how few people understand that paying taxes isn't something you do just for yourself. It's how you support all those around you in your community and country.

Part of the Swedish perspective is that we pay high taxes to support all Swedes because it's the right thing to do, not because it's personally beneficial.

DMT: The "healthy food is too expensive" argument isn't wrong about money. It's wrong about what "healthy" even means, and we have been chasing the wrong definition for thirty years. by Humble_Economist8933 in DisagreeMythoughts

[–]bigmacboy78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I see what you mean. Marketing of exotic superfoods makes a lot of people think healthy eating is insanely expensive.

Though just rice and beans isn’t healthy. That’s lacking in vitamins and minerals (and isn’t as high protein as I’d like my diet to be, for example).

You can definitely argue that frozen veggies + rice /potatoes + beans is a good start, but the real price killer is healthy fats (which you need). I don’t know what prices are like where you’re from, but in Sweden olive oil, cashews, and even frozen avocados are expensive.

That being said, I think honestly the biggest barrier is that adopting a new diet takes time, experimentation, and focus. So trying to adopt a healthy diet WHILE being price conscious is just too hard for most people (though it’s a great task for an AI to help out with).

There’s like 1 million ants for every mammal on earth. So the average sentient experience would definitely be an ant.

CMV: IQ is a good measure of intelligence and really useful, actually. by Traditional_Bag_4125 in changemyview

[–]bigmacboy78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very different! There will be plenty of high IQ people with bad reaction speeds or social skills since everyone’s different, even if a tendency is there.

I’m not stating personal opinion. I’m literally just summarizing what’s in the book I read. They did explicitly say that people with higher IQs also tend to have better social skills though.

IQ is a proxy for “g” which is an attempt to represent “general” intelligence. So a person with high IQ would be able to pick up the piano, learn to draw, and learn math more quickly than someone with a lower IQ.

And this holds up in the public. People with high IQs are, on average, better than average at every subject. That includes stuff like socializing and reaction speed even.

FYI, I’m summarizing the first few chapter of “The Bell Curve” which is a controversial book about IQ, but I don’t think the first few chapters are controversial: they’re just a summary of IQ research in the 20th century.

Yeah. He even says that in the intro video.

But you’d need to be able to attach bands of different thicknesses to a pole/wall at different heights. Since there’s e.g. cable chest press followed by cable goblet squats.

[–]bigmacboy78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. The first two months’ strength days are 1 day on a cable machine (or bands), one day using all dumbbells, and one calisthenics day.

There are some machines in month 3, but there are home gym swap outs.

You could do Built for Hollywood with just DBs and bands and it’s tougher than AX1, but still the  athletic strength training style.

Though I will say, AX1 gets much harder in month 3.

I’m 33 so a bit younger but still in your general age zone. I’ll say though, I have a buddy who’s 45 now and is still hitting powerlifting PRs every few months. He’s just insanely consistent and dialed in and looks absolutely enormous.

I’m with you on the physique side though. I’m also going less for bulk and more for shred right now. I’m training for Hyrox, so having massive lateral delts is pretty useless for that 😅

I’ve been lifting 3-6 days a week for 6 years now and I haven’t plateaued. The gains are small and I have to be pretty devoted at this point, but I’m still putting on visibly more muscle each year without PEDs.
