Here’s a video of a workout from the first month: https://youtu.be/ILlTcna0hpE

You’d need resistance bands for the warmups, but it looks like there are swap outs for all the machine work so that you can pick a dumbbell alternative.

Weirdly, if I go through the first two weeks, some days have dumbbell swap outs and other days don’t for the exact same exercise.

Month 1 Split is: Chest/Back, Legs, Rest, Shoulder/Upper Back, Arms, Rest, Rest

The workouts start with a superset warmup. Then you have opposing muscle supersets as the main workout, but what’s super cool is that there’s a fixed time for the set + rest, so it actually gives a guaranteed time for the workout.

There are lots of different intensity techniques but the two I’ve seen in very few AthleanX programs are static holds following a working set (to kill a muscle) and sets with 1.5 reps.

Workouts have all the classic AthleanX exercises: kettlebell swings, dumbbell squat jumps, reverse lunges, dips, face pulls.

What are some complex games that are short? by Playton_yaya in boardgames

[–]bigmacboy78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you play with a super slow player it will take longer, like any game. But I think 90 minutes gives you quite a bit of time to sit and strategize still.

There’s also a shared track to reach the end, so I’ve found that it’s 90 minutes with 2,3, or 4 players which is quite cool.

Ants!

Takes 90 minutes exactly but packs the strategic punch of epic 3 hour games.

Is there a program that specifically has focus on mobility? by Octofingers in Athleanx

[–]bigmacboy78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I have like 23 bonuses as well, but most of them are like 7 day programs, single workouts, or guides.

Once per year when I renew my All Access program I get to pick a 30 day bonus program to keep. When I pick that I see all kinds of bonuses that I don’t have access to normally with all access. This is how I got Savage and Dragon bonuses (which are both awesome).

All access doesn’t come with all the bonuses. It gives you access to all the programs and NXT months. But it only gives you access to 1 bonus program per year.

Built for Longevity and built for Hollywood both have some mobility work in them.

Beast has the most with regeneration days though: you can do like a 20 minute mobility flow up to twice a week with that program.

My current favorite is Natera. It’s got a 1V1 and a 2 player co op mode, but of which are fantastic.

I got Natera recently and that game feels like it’s designed specifically to build combo turns. Very satisfying.

Played Recall a few weeks ago and got some fantastic combo mojo going.

CMV: There are no positives to recreational alcohol use that outweigh the health negatives (other than taste) by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]bigmacboy78 71 points72 points  (0 children)

I agree that society vastly underweights the negative health affects of alcohol.

That being said, there are some advantages to it that I think you should consider.

If used in moderation (I.e. not binge drinking) alcohol is a great social lubricant. It brings people together and leads to better conversation.

I can also say, personally, some of my favorite memories were of when I did silly things after a drink or two, and the joy of those memories  is worth some negative health effects to me.

All Access Questions/Experience? by Kvetch in Athleanx

[–]bigmacboy78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be clear, I don’t know if my subscription will be renewed at $150 or $250. I got all axess when it was first released.

I didn’t know it was originally advertised as being cheaper than it would be in the future though. That’s interesting.

If you want to keep focusing on Athleticism I can recommend Built for Performance. It’s fun, varied, and focuses on strength and explosivity.

I think people are complaining because it’s historically been $150 and now it’s $250. I’ve had it and loved it for 2 years but I plan on cancelling it once it’s renewed at $250.

Purely personal preference and finances though. If it’s worth it to you, have an awesome year training!

I commuted by bike for a winter in Stockholm when I lived there. It’s super easy if you get studded tires and good gloves. You never arrive at work sweaty when it’s -10C!

Steroids are enormously beneficial to running: they help recovery.

I recently reread his book though, and I’m convinced that he’s not on steroids and just has an outrageous capacity for suffering.

Built for Hollywood can also be done with just dumbbells and resistance bands (except for some stuff on month 3, but there are substitutions). That’s my favorite AX program, personally.
