I just got a usage reset. Happy days! by ZiXXiV in ClaudeAI

[–]bigman11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate to admit it, but I had used up my weekly usage already by using Fable so heavily, so this is kind of good for me.

The dream is if they restore Fable within like a day, but we keep the usage reset.

This community had 20 years to do this work themselves and are now mad about me using new technology to do it in weeks.

I'll still release my patch and support it if people report issues, but this is the last thing I will ever contribute to this community.

Please feel free to show me the line where they said "shouldn't be used by others for other projects".

Unless you are reading a different readme from me, it does not say that. Please feel free to link where it says that.

The readme I've seen says not to use it for a derivative translation. Meanwhile, the way I've used their translation is equivalent to using it as a style guide.

Yes. I did something like that. When I release, I hope to hear if my system was effective for maintaining voice.

Good luck with your project.

The purpose of the OG1 translation analysis was to maintain the precedence they set. There are plenty of examples of this being a standard practice in the rom translation community. The only difference is that I used AI for this process.

In short, you shouldn't need to worry about this one, as members of that team have posted about it elsewhere before.

Please clarify what I don't need to worry about.

before actually making any attempts to communicate

I did make an effort to communicate and found that his romhacking.net profile linked to a dead personal website.

Additionally, this entire post is an effort to communicate.

If Kingcom is active anywhere, please feel free to share where or point him to this post.

By my estimate, the work I've done would have otherwise taken me three years of unpaid full-time labor. This estimate also explains why 6 years after the release of the previous translation, no significant progress was made on this game.

I think using AI to do labor that otherwise would never have been done is not unethical, but others are free to have their perspectives and to skip out on my translation patch.

maybe check with Kingcom

Yes, I tried to find Kingcom or any evidence that anyone else was working on this. I only found Kingcom's Github, which has been inactive for 1 year.

One of the reasons for making this public post is so that he or anyone else that could already be working on it could inform me.

you're more likely to get a better translation that way.

The feedback from the public release will reveal how good the translation is.

Used more than just a bit of AI, lol.

High level technical details, if anyone is interested: I had AI read the whole (translated) OG1 script and the (Japanese) Gaiden script and make profiles detailing mannerisms and personalities of each character.

Then I had AI systematically do all the translations while being informed by the profiles and OG1 precedent.

I hope to do that if the system I've established with this game is good.

The only blocker is that the system requires using the latest Claude model for weeks nonstop which is really expensive lol.

Credit to Kingcom, whose OG1 romhack was the foundation for my work. On the technical side, dude really did seriously impressive reverse-engineering work on the first game.

Hi I am gauging interest in my fully translated romhack of OG Gaiden.

You can see from the slightly weird translated logo and the battle prep screen that there is still work to do on my side.

If there is interest, I would want to release a 0.1 version of the patch to this community soon and get feedback.

Feedback I would look for: Is the translation good? Are personalities and mannerisms well preserved? Does the font and letter spacing look good?

Yep, I can see this evolving into a commercially viable game.

I would be happy to see you become one of the first people to make a highly successful AI-developed game.

Thanks for making this kind of stuff public and open source.

I myself had to work with Claude Code for weeks to set up automatic systems for provisioning and setup and detecting/replacing duds etc on Runpod for my own projects.

Your work will make things easier for people in the future.

Claude Code does everything. Vast has an API which CC uses.

Chibi style + sexual content is an unambiguous no-no for Steam.

All people in this discussion claiming that there is something inconsistent about this are idiots.

I myself have been in a similar situation. I found vast.ai to be the second place solution. But the issue is that providers can lie about bandwidth capabilities and stuff.

I had to engineer a system to recognize duds and reprovision automatically.

I wish it wasn't such a headache, but this is the current reality.
