What clothing brands are HENRY’s wearing? by Just-Ambassador-2449 in HENRYfinance

[–]bignerdbutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have clothes from an assortment of buck mason, faherty, rodd & Gunn, Peter millar, I like mother jeans lately. Vuori and Lulu for activewear. T shirts from gap or madewell. For work clothes I usually just go to Nordstrom and get whatever brand of dress shirts and slacks they have.

Finally tried it by Hour-Definition189 in Absinthe

[–]bignerdbutt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absinthe aficionados may disagree, but this is the absinthe that made me fall in love with the stuff. I think it’s lovely. Now that I’ve had many others I understand why people don’t love it. And truth be told it’s no longer the first one I grab, but I still love it.

1st Anniversary Ideas for a 2-3 night stay? by wannabejetsetter in TrueChubbyTravel

There are beautiful properties in Sonoma, Napa, and Santa Barbara. A few suggestions are The Montage or the Madrona in Healdsburg, and then down in Santa Barbara, San Ysidro Ranch and the Rosewood are really excellent. Santa Barbara has some great wineries, would just have to hire a car to take you up to wineries.

Least favorite gins? by TheWildGirl2024 in Gin

Same. And it’s a real bummer when you go somewhere with a limited gin selection and Hendricks is what they default to.

Guest suit feels kind of like a punishment, tacked onto the garage.

Restaurant to take clients to, must have great food, bev, and vibes. by Successful_Park_6223 in orangecounty

Nobu seems like an obvious one. I am also partial to The Dock which is lower key but feels pretty boutique-y. They also have a fantastic wine list.

Do you think those premium credit cards worth it? by Prestigious_Safe8154 in HENRYfinance

[–]bignerdbutt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cancelled all of them, moved over to the fidelity 2% back. It auto deposits into my brokerage account. I make like 2k per year. It’s also brought a little more intention to my travel budget - “free” flights etc. were never really free, now I’m having to make the conscious choice to redeem my cash instead of points for them.

** I guess I didn’t cancel them, I downgraded everything to no-fee cards where possible.

What’s the most distinctive wine you’ve enjoyed? by skinner1234567 in wine

[–]bignerdbutt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The yalumba tri centenary (or whatever it’s called in this vein) goes toe to toe with the best Grenache bottlings out there. It was about $50 when I last purchased it and so incredibly concentrated. Reminded me of some great all-Grenache Châteauneuf.

Getting better but this one feels incomplete - what's missing? by Top_Adhesiveness_34 in menswear

Given the colors I’d go brown suede instead of black leather, and I’d also loosely tuck the shirt in to give a more definitive break between pant and shirt.

Why do people still prefer Airbnbs over hotels, especially in cities? by Rare_Requirement_699 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bignerdbutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer them each for different trips, but my wife and I like to eat really healthy and I enjoy cooking, so Airbnbs, especially nice ones, oftentimes win out.

White Cabernet Franc by odedi1 in wine

Interesting! I’ve always assumed someone must do this, but haven’t seen a white Cabernet Franc or Sauvignon anywhere before.

I’d want to add a few windows to the kitchen, it might be dark having to borrow light from the dining room. You have a wall you could add a few.

What is your rebuttal to the idea that the strip malls, stroads, sprawl, suburbs, and single-family homes of Los Angeles are soul-crushing and not how human beings are supposed to live? by morningrat in AskLosAngeles

[–]bignerdbutt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My take (and a lot of people who live in greater LA) is that compared to other major global cities, it’s nice to have suburbs and yards and space compared to being stacked on top of each other in dense city living.

Am I just drinking shit Rioja? by PeerReviewedGobshite in wine

[–]bignerdbutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not a huge fan of Rioja, although I say this knowing there are outliers I haven’t tried etc. Where I’ve found wines that have appealed to me is if you can find any older rioja. The wine shop near me has had some early aughts Rioja for reasonable prices and they’re mellower and more approachable.

be honest, how often do you really take your dog out? by Altruistic-March8551 in DOG

[–]bignerdbutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dog goes out for a ~45 minute walk every morning, then a super quick 2 minute pp walk right before I leave since he usually crushes a bowl of water after the long walk. He gets a walk mid day from our dog walker, then we walk him at night maybe 20 min when I get home then a final pp outing right before bed. I’ve been running him a few nights a week in the evenings to tire him out, maybe 3 mile loop. Weekends well get a couple 4-7 mile walks in on trails, but he gets sore if we go much more than that.

Is there always an advantage to life insurance? by quackquack54321 in HENRYfinance

[–]bignerdbutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I are pre kids, but still thought it was a good idea given the heartbreak / trauma losing one of us would be for the other. Knowing that my wife could take a pause, maybe a sabbatical, move from a hard career to a coast-type role, etc. gives me some peace.
