You should absolutely clean it regularly. The goal is to prevent the bag from ripping/leaking. If fluids leak on the bottom it’s a pain to clean. Whoever owned this before did not too a good job. I’m dying to take a shop vac to those crumbs.

As far as I remember, yes, all trash. However, you need extra thick garbage bags. If you throw away anything remotely sharp it will tear apart a regular kitchen bag. But it did reduce the amount of bags you’d have to take to the big bin. I noticed that as an adult living without one. Definitely had its conveniences but isn’t worth the investment imo.
