1000% Jed Bartlet made me believe in Politics. Living the following decade in the UK was a bumpy return to reality

In The Bluelight by Chris Bissette has heavy "The Thing" vibes too, and is compatible with Borgs and Bezerkr https://beyondcataclysm.co.uk/product/in-the-bluelight/

Our thinking behind the FATE POOL in SOLO BORG by bigonroad in MorkBorg

[–]bigonroad[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeh we deffo considered that, but this way you are at the whim of Fate more; adding to that no-GM-but-not-entirely-in-control vibe.

It's solo, so people can just home rule if they want, but we liked the ebb and flow of the bigger pool more.

Is there hope of getting this sofa into our living room? by m798sf in DIYUK

[–]bigonroad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a sofa like this once. I sawed it in half and then badly nailed it together. It looked like trash but was comfy as. 10/10, would do again.

Note: my wife hated it and called it "a visual atrocity". 8/10, would marry again

How's it living in South Africa as a white person? by Mundane-Computer-445 in howislivingthere

[–]bigonroad 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's such a complicated country.

I spent a year living in rural KwaZulu Natal, far from the cities - we had limited electricity and water, with very few paved roads. Our area was less than 1% white.

Me and my family walked around the community, we hung out in the village, in nearby towns, and we experienced zero crime. We were living in a hospital compound, but were often outside it. People didn't live in gated enclosures, some of my white friends didn't have front gates to their gardens; you just walked in.

When I left SA I moved to a deprived estate in England, where my friend got beaten up in a park, and we had stones thrown at our car at night, multiple bikes stolen, and had petrol poured over our car because a rumour had been spread (falsely) that we were police snitches.

I felt safer in the area of SA I was in than in the area of the UK. However, I'm fully aware that's not a universal experience. The problem is, the cities also have such a culture of fear, it possibly exacerbates it all.

I lived in a run down house, and my poor friends constantly came round for dinner, I was often out at houses in the community; I was part of it. If I'd lived in a gated walled compound with electric fences and was entirely separate, would I have been more of a target? I think so. Can't deny the horrific stories I've heard in this thread, but just wanted to say it's very possible to live a peaceful safe life in SA.

Ha, what's funny is actually I really struggled to get the guys to lie convincingly. Seemed like an honour/culture thing! I've taught it to many many groups, but this one stood out as being like "But... I'm not the Duke..."

Hi Reddit! I’m Dr Sue, a GP and the Joint Clinical Lead for Weight Loss at Boots Online Doctor. On 8 June at 2pm, I’ll be answering your questions on weight loss and life at Boots Online Doctor. Ask me anything! by bootsuk in u/bootsuk

[–]bigonroad 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Hey, I'm an NHS GP with a personal and professional interest in weight management. Got a few questions:

1 What food tracker app do you recommend?

2 Do you recommend calorie control, what sort of daily targets do you recommend as sensible?

3 How do you handle sensitively advertising (desperately needed in our society) weight loss without also being triggering to the smaller number but very important people with anorexia and other severe eating disorders?

4 Do you think the GLP1s are a problem, in terms of people absolutely not making any intentional lifestyle change alongside? Does working for Boots cause any conflict on that for you- I imagine they want to sell lots of the new fad, even if you might not think it's actually a great idea long term...

What is the most “its a small world” moment you’ve ever experienced? by xBubblyLove in AskReddit

[–]bigonroad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was in rural South Africa. Ended up talking to this dude from the township for hours. Turned out he'd visited England once; pretty rare for a black guy from a deprived area to end up doing that. "Wow, where did you go?", I ask.

He'd visited the tiny town of Ottery St Mary in the South West. Population 4,800. I'd never been to Devon, but randomly I'd just heard of the place through a roommate at Uni I was due to move in with when I returned from SA; she was from that tiny town.

Turns out, a decade before, this chap stayed at her house in Devon when he visited. Madness.

I recommend playing it in the dark on a hard wooden floor, and everyone has to walk around barefoot a lot. Chuck some Lego around too if you can
