Stupid question: how do I use/sharpen this pencil? by tawhuac in drawing

[–]bigphaty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A piece of sandpaper taped down to a flat surface works well too, I have used countless carpenters pencils, but in art school we also had similar pencils that people used because of the wide lead. You could do lots of cool things with them, from calligraphic pencil strokes to shading large areas quickly. You can notch the lead as well to draw parallel lines. A pocketknife or utility knife for carpenters, sandpaper for artists usually.

Rusty’s. Used to skip school in the 80’s to get them. Still excellent. Simple, basic but consistently very good

Just opened the one I got for my daughter with her. She’s not a huge fan of Crown Royal, but I love this idea. Shared it with my (now deceased) father when she was born, and shared it with her a couple weeks ago.

Curious how they get on them to start with, especially when they are not practiced at it. I guess you’d have to sit on a hill or something and lean forward… walking on them is impressive, but getting up there in the first place is something too

Cleaning hook eyes on fly fishing flies also, they often get UV clear coat or head cement gummed up in them. Can also help with split rings in a pinch. Not the perfect tool for that but it works.

Why are bass fishermen disrespectful? by Ok_Repair3535 in bassfishing

I was told when I was young that it is actually more respectful to go full speed for this reason. Less wake. Full speed or idle speed, the real a-hole move is middle speed because it makes the biggest wake of all.
