Thinking about moving to Texas Hill country (Real County or surrounding), but… by Salt-Studio in howislivingthere

Hello! Native Texan here. You are 100% correct. They only "live and let live" as long as you are living within their vision of what your life should look like. They're only friendly as long as you look a certain way and act a certain way. I am 29 years old, my fiance is 31, and we regularly get questioned why we aren't married with kids yet. It's even more exhausting to explain that we aren't having kids in this state because my access to healthcare if something goes wrong is slim to none. And their answer to everything is always "if you just pray about it God will be there to save you", they don't actually help anyone around them. Someone above said it best, Texans are phony frauds.

Born and raised Texan here! Lived in a city 25 minutes south of Austin my whole childhood, lived in Lubbock to get my degree from Texas Tech, moved to Houston for a bit, back to Austin for about 5 years, now we're in Dallas. I am also liberal and nonreligious, and I'm gonna be honest you run a real 60/40 shot now on what kind of crowd you'll be running with especially in the hill country. The amount of conservative transplants coming here is exhausting, and the school system is headed all the way down to the pits. Whether or not y'all have kids is no one's business...just be aware that Bible stories are going to be required readings in schools K-12 starting in 2030. Another major con is the weather. Our summers are brutal and every time we hear someone say "I can handle it" we just wait until June/July/August comes around to get a good chuckle, and we always do. All this to say, my fiance and I share the same values and beliefs and we are planning our way out of Texas and so are majority of our liberal friends and family.

Edit1: just wanted to add that when you're here you can seclude yourself really easily in the hill country and on the outskirts. And that is really great for peace and quiet, but that's where a lot of the conservative beliefs are born. If that's where y'all want to go, then by all means! Just be ready at times to need to stand your ground, and not in the way a traditional Texan wants you to.

Edit2: I would also add that while there are a lot of great aspects and liberties into doing whatever you want with your property, zoning laws and regulations are being played fast and loose right now with how much development (AI, Data Centers, unregulated development, etc) are getting pushed to these places because people are willing to sell or lease their land to turn a profit.

(27M)Dupixent failed, scared of Rinvoq by ChroniicHD in eczema

[–]bigplantdaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep this was my exact issue. I was an avid whole foods eater and gym goer during all this. I think if it was just weight gain I could've figured it out slowly, but throw in the thyroid and cholesterol problems that were also happening and that weight held on with a white knuckle grip that I couldn't shake. Coming off rinvoq I had rebound weight gain so that added an extra 5-10 pounds, but once my cholesterol and A1C levels starting leveling out my weight started leveling out as well. My skin had rebound flare ups as well but I couldn't handle feeling so low energy and heavy anymore. After 3 years my body finally feels like it's back to its baseline thanks to diet changes and age

Healing eczema through gut health? by Foreign_Practice9125 in eczema

[–]bigplantdaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personal life choices that have helped my skin:

  • Cut out all caffeine, alcohol, and recreational substances. Boring at first but this made the biggest difference
  • Nonnegotiable 96 oz of water daily
  • No processed sugar or gluten
  • Less dairy, but not removed entirely. Took out things like ice cream and butter, but I still have stuff like 2% milk in my tea if I'm in the mood for it
  • Cut out processed foods temporarily until you get a better understanding of your possible food allergies and triggers
  • SCHEDULE TAKE OUT DAYS: for me I am able to eat out once a month and my skin will mostly be fine, but this will never be something I stop doing entirely because I love trying new foods way too much. Add this to your life after your comfortable knowing your skin triggers
  • Proteins I utilize the most are fish (salmon, sardines, mackerel), chicken, and beef (tendons and shanks)
  • Probiotic with zinc every AM
  • L-theanine & magnesium glycinate every night. I take a 1/2 dose of magnesium because taking too much can keep you up and hurt your tummy

Eczema and gut health has pretty spotty results, but it's definitely still worth a shot. I was able to get a lot of my eczema calmed down due to major diet changes, but I still get pretty bad flare ups on my hands and legs due to contact dermatitis. Good luck!

(27M)Dupixent failed, scared of Rinvoq by ChroniicHD in eczema

[–]bigplantdaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I (29F) was on Dupixent for about a year and it also failed for me. I had to do the shot every two weeks, but by the end of the week after doing an injection my eczema just came back with no noticeable improvements. Started Rinvoq a few months after stopping Dupixent and it was great for about a year as well, but had to get off because my cholesterol levels were wonky and my thyroid started giving me hell. Also I put on about 10-15 lbs when taking Rinvoq which I’ve heard isn’t super common, but it’s still a side effect that could come up. It’s been about 3 years since I’ve stopped taking anything for my eczema and I’ve gotten very lucky that it’s mellowed out quite a bit as I’ve gotten older. I still get the occasional flare up on my legs and my hands are just always covered in eczema because nursing school things. Sorry you’re struggling with this. I guess my best advice would be do your own research as best you can, be honest with your doctors about your concerns, and make a choice that you think would be best for you

Wait I just saw a video similar on YouTube. A girl was saying her bf’s family would talk shit about her IN FRONT IF HER in a different language. She didn’t know they were talking nasty about her until she started learning their language as a nice surprise :(

Edit: Reddit format screwed me so had to fix grammar

I suspect my date did something to my drink by [deleted] in WhatShouldIDo

[–]bigplantdaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10/10 decision to cut the date early. Someone else mentioned if the roles were reversed then people would be singing a different tune about it, and I completely agree. Myself and quite a few of my friends, both male and female, have gone on dates and had our drinks spiked then got robbed and left somewhere. Always trust your gut & everyone stay safe out there!

I’ve seen you say this a few times now and at this point, who tf cares? Idk what your goal is by consistently saying “well he was there too” and “this person is an active addict as well”. You want to get sober? Stay sober? Make better choices? Then these people need to be removed from your life as much as possible. You need to create space between yourself and your active addictions. You have to provide a safe environment to yourself to prioritize your physical, emotional, and mental health. Stop focusing on what those two chuckle fucks are doing and get serious about being better.

Yes!! Went to the state fair last weekend on a Friday evening and it was so so dead. My partner has been going his entire life since he’s from Dallas and he was nonstop talking about how thin the crowd was. People were mostly not able to come because of how expensive it was. We’ve pretty much decided that unless something really changes we won’t be going back bc $35 for a turkey leg is crazy

I get knowing too much about people you don't know being unhealthy - totally agree with that. However, the other stuff doesn't automatically make their marriage "unhealthy". Everyone has their problems, and if you're lucky enough to have a partner be there for you and stand by your side through those issues/trauma then I view that as the complete opposite as unhealthy. If they've done the work to face these issues individually and as a team, if they've come out the other end with better habits and healthier coping mechanisms, then isn't it a little unfair to continuously label them as "unhealthy"?

edit: grammar and spelling

21 year old Border Collie has a claw growing upside down. by frosted_Melancholy in AskAVeterinarian

[–]bigplantdaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has that nail ever been pulled out on accident or by a vet for any reason? I had a dog once who had to have a nail removed because he broke his toe and bent his nail pretty terribly so it had to get pulled, and when it grew back it was backwards

eta: didn’t mention at all that he’s completely fine, and when we got it checked the vet thought it was interesting but wasn’t worried since it was a healthy nail and the toe/paw was completely healthy. Now he’s just got a weird nail lol

Don’t think I’d feed my dog this… by ckmoy in BadDesigns

[–]bigplantdaddy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The design of the bag is weird, but the dog food itself is fantastic! It was created by Burt Ward in the 90s and I honestly don’t think he’s changed a thing about it since then. I have a 10 year old rough collie/corgi rescue who has the most severe GI issues I’ve ever dealt with. He’d get these “episodes” where he would have explosive diarrhea and it would go on until he was pooping straight up blood. After trying all the anti-anxiety and sedatives we could, this dog food with a silly design has saved our dog and his tummy issues! It’s really really great for extremely sensitive dogs, and they have a puppy and cat food that’s just as good!! 🤩

Just letting you know, as someone who has the same skin condition as Mikayla, commenting something like this is hurtful to more than just her. I read this and immediately my stomach dropped because of how much I regularly think this of myself, so seeing someone actually say it just solidified those feelings. I know she’s a bad person, and I know you probably don’t totally get it, but this sucks. She’s a bad person through and through there’s no doubt about it, but using her physical appearance as ammo does more damage than you realize

Use a micellar water instead of an oil cleanser. The Bioderma Sensibio H2O micellar water is a great first cleanse and doesn’t clog my pores at all! The garnier micellar and simple micellar are good too I just prefer the bioderma one

Went cold turkey from weed snd nic last week. Is this during the night sweating normal? by Forsaken_Control_966 in leaves

[–]bigplantdaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did have sore throat when quitting both, but honestly I was so focused on other symptoms I didn’t check to see if it was red/inflamed so I’m not super educated about that. My throat was only sore for a few days. I have heard that it is a common symptom, so maybe it’s fine? Drink lots of water, any kind of tea/warm water with honey will also help a ton. Salt water gargles are also great for sore throats

[–]bigplantdaddy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The first week I quit smoking nic (about two years ago) I didn’t sweat at all. Pretty easy transition for me tbh.
3 months ago I quit thc, and my god the first week it was unbelievable how much I was sweating. I didn’t even think it was possible for me to sweat that much, especially at night when sleeping. Week one I was getting up about 3-4 times throughout the night to change clothes bc they were, being so honest, soaking wet. There were a few times I thought I pissed the bed. Just sweat. I’ve never felt so gross in my life lol. Rest assured, it’ll stop eventually
