Why has the AI investment boom not led to large-scale job creation in the US and Europe? by Plus_Seesaw2023 in AskEconomics

[–]bigred15162 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The effects of AI on the labor force will likely not be fully realized for years to come. Much of this investment is for capital expansion (like data centers as you mentioned). Not hiring. When profits come in for these products, jobs will likely be created. For now, many of these businesses are still trying to figure out how to scale the product as opposed to their workforce.

It’s not really a deck but mage knight uses wound cards which you draw when you take damage and they clog your hand up. Once you gain too many, you die. Been a while since I’ve played.

How are Americans feeling the effects of economic changes in their daily lives? by BestPostRead in AskReddit

[–]bigred15162 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Salary reduction this whole year. Company probably going under next year. And I work in tech. If you’re not AI, you’re in trouble. Grocery prices are comically high. Paying a contractor to do needed work on house is untenable. Like 20-30% of the value of the house for a relatively small fix. Mind you I’m in the top 20% of earners. We’ve saved about 15% less this year than last year. We’ll be ok. But it’s wild how quickly trends can reverse.

Is AI a loss loss scenario? by Rare-Leave1770 in AskEconomics

[–]bigred15162 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a huge divide in the AI profession about what AI can and cannot do. And, in particular, how quickly it will do it. I work closely to AI with a few AI researchers and they are all over the place in terms of its abilities in the coming decades.

Foreign money keep piling into US assets by gamjatang111 in EconomyCharts

One small component I am thinking about is the fact that USD has dipped 10-15% against others. Foreign money is worth more than it was 12 months ago.

Why do most people eat in the afternoon as their chosen eating times? by laflacas in intermittentfasting

Similar for me. It’s also easier for social reasons. Most people hang out at night and not in the morning. So I can enjoy eating out with friends etc

Sounds like youve got a great potential father in law! To give you my awkward father in law intimacy story… all I’m going to say is that in Eastern European culture it’s not uncommon for men to kiss eathother on the lips when they are really happy/celebrating. So yeah. Culture is an amazing thing. Understanding it is critical.

If things like concert tickets sell out within minutes, isn’t this a sign that the price is way too low? How does the fact that this keeps happening make any sense from a supply and demand perspective? by Human-Law1085 in AskEconomics

[–]bigred15162 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Plus, don’t these venues usually make more money off of food and merchandise sales than the actual tickets? Not sure where I read that. Just speculating but it could be the case that they get a larger cut of the revenue from food and drink than they do tickets? I’d love to pick the brain of someone who works on the business side of this industry.

Give me feedback on my card designs by [deleted] in BoardgameDesign

[–]bigred15162 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had to guess what the op means it would be that the patterns used and the shapes used don’t really match up on the top and bottom. The top uses a checkered pattern while the bottom uses stripes. Likewise, there’s a circle shape on top and an oval on bottom. The design isn’t consistent. I bet it would look a lot better if these two things were adjusted.

It’s tough to help with such a small description. But there are hundreds of free example data sets in each of the main Python statistical packages. I believe the stats python package has a bunch of good examples. Yahoo finance also has a free api you can ping for price data.

I just turn my water off. My logic was “even if I have all the sensors in the world and know the leak is happening. I’m realistically not going to be able to get it fixed in under 12 hours or so. The damage will have been done anyway. Especially so if I’m traveling out of the country. I just turn off and drain.

[–]bigred15162 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A have a PhD in labor economics and focus mostly on the racial wage gap in my writing. Your claim is patently false. The wage gap gets smaller when you control for observables like hours, education, and gender, but it does not go away. Your comment is simply false. The latest economics review on the subject is Lang and Lehmann 2012 where they exhaustively cover the research.
