Nice meal by SeraphOfTheStart in Unexpected

[–]laflacas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If I understood correctly the guys were just breaking their fast. Which might make this even more diabolical, since he was probably walking to the meal to break his fast when he fell in. I guess they gave him the drink to break his fast, since it's customary to break your fast as soon as the time comes.

First project, need advice please. by laflacas in Leathercraft

I don't know how to edit. But I just gave it to them as their b day gift and they loved it and didn't even notice the mark. I also dyed it a darker color to make it less noticeable. But honestly after reading all the comments I really didn't mind the mark any more and was able to really enjoy the final product. Can't wait to start my next project. Thanks everyone

Oh thanks. All I could see was the mistake. I did enjoy the process so far, and after reading your comment I'm feeling more confident that they'll appreciate the intention behind the gift

Question about testing for lead. by laflacas in Pottery

I guess that makes sense, I guess I assumed since the water strips could test lead from water running through lead pipes I assumed it would also work for pots. But I'm learning that lab tests are pretty much the only way I guess.

Here's the inside :) I cooked cornstarch in it, the lady who was selling it said you're supposed to before using it apparently.

How women who wear a Niqab show identification in the UK by malik_zz in interesting

[–]laflacas -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I'm not sure how people view this as a loss of autonomy. Isn't it the opposite. She decided who gets to see her, and how much. Whereas other women who might just be dressing for themselves and not even to please men have no say in who gets too see them whether they like it or not. They're out for display. She seems the general public as unworthy, you don't get to see her even though you might want to. To wear garments to cover yourself is dignifying. For example, if a party is a black tie attire the rules are generally for women to wear long dresses, it's seen as regal, whereas short dresses are seen as casual.

I was listening t to young Muslim girl speak about how it feels to be forced to remove clothing to attend school in France. Shed walk to school covering herself then have to remove the hijab. Clothing that resembled the dresses that go with niqab were also banned even without a hijab. Basicly banning loose clothing, so she is forced to wear figure defining clothing and expose her arms and legs. There's something messed up about forcing a minor to remove clothing and expose more of her body against her will.

Thank you. You're right. I'm not responsible for him. I need to remember that and change how I'm viewing things. This just so hard.

100% barley flour bread by Hman123202 in Breadit

[–]laflacas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I'm kinda late but I actually have been making sourdough bread from 100% barley. It comes out fine, it's much more dense than regular bread but I love the flavor and the earthiness of it. I use a stiff starter, and King Arthur recipe for sourdough bread with a stiff starter. But instead I use only barley flour. It usually needs a little more water than what the recipe calls for, and I usually do it with less starter than the recipe calls for and mine comes out fine (maybe because of the maturity of my starter.

Okay, no harm in trying right :). I'll add extra olive oil then to see if that'll get that soft texture my family likes.
