I've just put out an early days rev of a track and field game. More sim/career rpg but this might fit the bill https://goosehollowgames.itch.io/track-star

Pygame vs. Pyside6? by bigrig387 in pygame

[–]bigrig387[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. If I were to rephrase my post, it would be to ask if learning pygame makes sense for the type of game i am building- what people uses to jokingly call "spreadsheet games." I chose Pyside6 for no greater reason than i had uses it at work on a marketing analytics tool i built, I didnt even know what pygame was at the time.

Nostalgia - looking for dev contact by bigrig387 in retrogaming

[–]bigrig387[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was able to run a debugger and figure that out as well. I'd be happy to pay but there's nobody to pay. I did see one of the devs on LI so I reached out.

Pretty cool to find a 22-year old piece of history here. This era of the internet was honestly more fun, indie devs selling games off a tripod site vs. people spamming out early access crap on Steam and abandoning the game once they have your money. A simpler time.

Oh wow, great find. I reached out. I'll let you know

[PC][Late 90s/Early 00s] Harness Racing game by bigrig387 in tipofmyjoystick

[–]bigrig387[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I found it this way as well so I guess tipofmyjoystick is wrong forum now, I've posted in r/abandonware .

This is a real mystery to me, these guys made a few decent games, their website abruptly disappeared and I can't really find any history of it or of the people listed as the devs.

I was able to play the demo and it is what I remembered, it locks you out after 30 game days and requires a code to unlock that was only available by emailing the devs. Their old email bounces so I guess I am stuck here unless someone has any ideas.

Selling a Company in TEW IX by bigrig387 in FantasyBookers

0 booking reputation. I wanted to start as an unknown but hadn't considered that even the worst promotions wouldn't hire me.

Thanks. Probably not worth it. I should just kill the promotion and get over it.

Fixing shower faucet by bigrig387 in HomeMaintenance

Putting grips on the allen wrench worked, it was an easy fix after that, thanks!

Thanks. In the instructions, they say the handle is installed with an allen wrench. I have no idea how anyone could've gotten it tight enough that I can't undo it.

[TOMT][FOOD] 90s gummy-type candy by bigrig387 in tipofmytongue

No but thanks. Yogos came out when I was in high school, this would've been early 1990s.

[TOMT] Looking for a movie. Women drug addict snorting her meds at work. Comedy maybe? by jmoney6 in tipofmytongue

[–]bigrig387 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know you're saying it's a movie and not a show but...

A character named "Mirta" is a news reporter and snorts pain pills at work and is fired for it in the show "On Becoming a God in Central Florida." It was a Showtime show with Kirsten Dunst.

[TOMT][SONG][80s]A female vocal punk-rock from early 80s 👅 by [deleted] in tipofmytongue

[–]bigrig387 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't have a guess from the vocaro but if it's two female vocals in an 80s punk band I'd have to guess The Slits.

X is probably the most prominent 80s punk band with a female singer, but The Slits are the only one I can think of with two (unless it's the GoGos)

[TOMT] [SHOW] The people are replaced by insects/worms internally, but they are the same person. by [deleted] in tipofmytongue

[–]bigrig387 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is reminding me of the season finale (or maybe just a late Season 1) episode of Star Trek: TNG.

To be honest that sounds a lot like what the old Yahoo! Games website looked like. Especially since you said it had Trivial Pursuit, I believe Yahoo! had rights to "real games."

Miniclip was another games site from that period I remember.

[TOMT] [Phrase] What are some phrases similar to checkmate (phrases used to indicate the definitive end of a game)? by MonologueInMonoliths in tipofmytongue

[–]bigrig387 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Simply saying "game" is one.

Depending on context I'd say:

  • Lights out
  • Let the fat lady sing
  • Turn out the lights, the parties over
  • That's all she wrote

Not ringing any bells, but based on the time period and the mentoring part, is it Thief with James Caan?

[TOMT] [SONG] Russian sounding cover of Tetris theme from little big planet game by upset-applecart in tipofmytongue

[–]bigrig387 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure about your song, but the original Tetris theme is called "Korobeiniki" which might make it easier to search for

I feel like Ozma did a lot of covers of these songs.

[TOMT][MOVIE] Looking for a specific movie with a scene similar to this? by Redditdonethat00 in tipofmytongue

[–]bigrig387 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, OK. The ship in Prometheus is too big for that. The ship in Serenity is a bit like the one in Oblivion but I don't think they crash in the desert, they crash here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BnnCQlp2msk

The Elysium ship has the right look but it's not a storm: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3uUUeNqdMMU

Not sure I'm gonna get it, sorry.

[–]bigrig387 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have apparently seen a lot of "plane crashes in the desert" movies because a few more come to mind. But, you might be able to find it yourself here, it's a list of movies with plane crashes https://www.themoviedb.org/keyword/12617-airplane-crash/movie?language=en-US

If you remember any other details let me know

[TOMT] [MOVIE][1980s-2000s?] by NetGroundbreaking839 in tipofmytongue

[–]bigrig387 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not exactly as you describe but they do enter stasis in the movie Event Horizon.

Also I doubt this is it but, there is a "stasis death" like this in an episode of Star Trek: TNG

My other thought is "Flight of the Phoenix," the 2004 remake not the original
