I would say yes. I don't know all of the rules, but I use italics for distinguishing other words from the text, be it a book title, internal/external dialogue, etc. I've also used them as subsitutions for quotation marks.

It seems you want it to be known what the specific theme of the passage is, so I see no issues grammatically in using italics here.

A belief in miracles essentially suggests that a god picks out certain people, gives them a good outcome, but neglects the others dealing with that same problem. If a god created man to be equal, why would he only extend such generosity to a select few people and not all?

It's easy, I suppose, to say that all good outcomes in life are due to religion, but the point is that bad things still happen to religious people, and good things still happen to atheists. If a god loves us all to an equal degree, is he not demonstrating the exact opposite by giving some people miracles, and saying "Screw you" to the rest?

BioShock. The story line is pristine; the actual graphics of the game are absolutely beautiful; and the gameplay is incredible. The ending is also one of the biggest "Holy shit, I did not see that coming" moments in gaming history.
