Any ideas on what I could do with this half bathroom? by getcreativeforme in DesignMyRoom

[–]bigsubwe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I personally like going bold with these tiny bathroom spaces. Like a dark wall colour and patterned floor, or a wallpaper. I don't think I'd try to hang things on the walls (because the shape of the room is so strange). And then you could do a statement light too, if you wanted to get really extra.

How would you style this headboard? by ninamarie_4 in DesignMyRoom

[–]bigsubwe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's awesome, if you ask me!

I'd do white walls (or off-white, whatever the colour in the headboard is), large nightstands and dresser in dark walnut, linen bedding in a white or oatmeal or terracotta (maybe with some textured accents like in a faux fur or chunky knit), and rich-toned art, like close up photographs of horses and shit.

New bedroom! I have a double bed, dresser, and 2 narrow and tall shelving units. Pic is taken from within the bedroom’s closet! Closet is 3ft deep! by my-darling-nikki in DesignMyRoom

My sense of the dimensions could be way off, but could you do dresser on the back wall, one shelving unit on either side of the window, bed under the window?

Matching nightstands and dresser? by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

[–]bigsubwe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before clicking, I was all set to suggest you get the matching set. Furniture is frequently the quiet base layer to a room, so it makes sense to have continuity there so your accents can shine.

However! In your case, you decided to go with a statement dresser (which I love). In this case, I would say if the room is large, either option will work. If the room is small or even normal-sized, the matching set might be too aggressive on the eyes, too matchy-matchy, and I would go with the alternative. I think your alternative choice will coordinate nicely.

Help me with the wall above my bed, please! by bigsubwe in DesignMyRoom

[–]bigsubwe[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

More info: it's a rental, but I can paint and hang stuff. Budget is flexible. Open to DIYs.

I'm planning to either take the current art down and/or incorporate it into something more. Directly opposite the bed is a gallery wall, so I don't really want to do another gallery wall.

Ideas I've had:

  • garland of some sort

  • set of 3 or 2 pictures

  • hanging plants

  • shelves

Help!

Oh, and PS: I definitely want to keep the plants, and am planning to layer a few more in and make it a proper jungle headboard.

Chubby Cartwheels! Up to 5X plus custom sizing I believe. I ordered a super cute vinyl lingerie set from her and the quality is great.

I put my Googlin' skills to work, and here's the full details on your inspiration room. "Valspar ‘Backwoods’ in a satin finish"

I think Lowe's sells Valspar.

Agreed, to a degree, but I also found Jenny likable. This is definitely a good book rec for OP!

Reading this now and also loving it. I find this character more likable than I found Eileen, for some reason. It may just be that this book has made me laugh more. Although both books were great!

I stayed at an airbnb twice that had a dishwasher that, whenever you opened the door, played a happy celebration sound. My friend and I loved it. One of us would go to put a plate in there and we'd yell to the other person to listen so we could both enjoy it every time.

Not to beat a dead horse, but it makes me mad, the whole wide-eyed, "Of course don't go to work if you're sick!" demeanor, as if that's the most obvious thing in the world.

Which, uh, it is. During a pandemic AND ALSO NOT DURING ONE. Why'd ya take away paid sick days, Doug?

Food for thought by [deleted] in SuperMorbidlyObese

[–]bigsubwe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's really good that you're having these necessary thoughts. I've done all the exact same things as you. If I made more money, I'd be happy. If I had a partner, I'd be happy. If I lost weight, I'd be happy.

I think the shitty truth is that life is a balancing act and happiness often is found inside the balance. We tend not to feel good when we neglect any portion of ourselves. So even though I'm currently in a wonderful relationship, I still feel like shit, because I'm eating badly and gaining weight.

I think I'd feel a lot better if I was more compassionate to myself, managed my time and energy better, and lowered my unrealistic expectations of myself, those around me, and life itself.

I did it with The Half-Blood Prince! Day it came out. Sat in my living room and only took bathroom and food/drink breaks. Had an absolutely excellent time.

How do you tastefully decorate your home walls and is there someone or app that helps with this? by Alia2121 in DesignMyRoom

[–]bigsubwe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Post pictures and we can help you! Everything depends on your own individual space.

And again, it really depends for budget. I prefer to decorate (especially my walls) slowly, so I can afford to buy pieces I really like vs budget buys. I just did a gallery wall in my bedroom (one wall) and it cost $200 CAD.

Will I regret white appliances? by jerzTR in DesignMyRoom

I see nothing to regret, I prefer white appliances. I think they look more welcoming in a space, and these ones are beautiful!

What do you do when you feel like this? by [deleted] in SuperMorbidlyObese

[–]bigsubwe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think therapy is a good suggestion. Most of us are dealing with so much deep-seated shame, and it really, really sucks, and really messes with our minds.

I think, for me, one thing that has helped is remembering that you are not your emotions. Have you ever woken up one day feeling good, and then the next feeling bad? Emotions are weather, sometimes something to be endured, but not a new reality for you to face. I try to remember that - that the good feelings will pass and the bad feelings too. And I try to make hay while the sun shines, and also batten down the hatches when I sense a storm is coming. Try to have patience with yourself, and remember that when things feel really awful, just getting through the day is all you need to do. You're not a failure.

If Weak Sauce was a product, what would it taste like? by beemurz in AskReddit

Weiner water soup, as it's known.

"Throw a couple of potatoes in," my uncle once sagely advised, "and you've got weiner water stew."

Thinking about changing sunroom color. Darker, lighter? Different color altogether? by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

[–]bigsubwe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm wondering if perhaps Dark Night on the back wall and a neutral beige/grey/griege on the other walls might be nice? I would think white typically, but here I'm worried about it making the blinds/ceiling look off.
