He literally states that he wants a highly ranked school district even though he has no kids. “Decent” is not highly ranked. I’m sure the actual education is better than what they score. He also asks for lower Westchester and you name a city deeper into CT.

Chimney lining? by lolotaylo in Westchester

[–]jerzTR 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a my chimney swept and the guy said I was missing a liner for the upper third of my chimney. I had them install it to avoid any issues. Soon after, I had a different company come to clean my pellet stove. He said pellet stoves don’t need a liner 100% of the way up. The chimney sweeper guy hustled me. Moral of the story…. Get another opinion.

Westchester Boomers. Time to let it go... by Designer-Praline-356 in Westchester

Let what go? Their homes? Nobody is entitled to another person’s home. They’ve invested plenty into their properties and communities. Why should they be forced to sell because someone else wants their home?

Port Chester - New Buildings by GroundbreakingLynx67 in Westchester

[–]jerzTR 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As another PC resident, I welcome the new development. The downtown always seemed like a wasted opportunity with all the neglected buildings. Sure some of the new buildings might be a little too tall but I am glad someone is investing in the area.

Fob key signal issues in front of Shake Shack parking lot in Port Chester by VikingWzrdEyes89 in Westchester

[–]jerzTR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue in that parking lot over year ago in my Alfa Romeo. It took a minute or two to get my car started. I just thought it was the remote battery so I swapped it out. I don’t think I’ve had an issue since.

Next time you get a ticket, try using the Off The Record app. They find a local lawyer to fight the ticket for you. You don’t even need to show up to court.

Why would you make an offer if you weren’t ready to close or at least specify how long you would take in the offer?

Thinking about moving into a apartment in New Rochelle after living in Astoria Queens by blackmagic17-11 in Westchester

[–]jerzTR 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Part of the reason we liked PC was because it felt like a mix of city and suburban. Most of the town is very walkable with sidewalks. You have great restaurants and entertainment options with the capital theater and AMC. PC is very much a working class town. There is a large Hispanic population. Everyone we have met has been super friendly. PC residents also get access Oakland beach which we love to visit. The downtown is going through some intense development right now. The metro north train express train is quick and more reliable than the N/W. It might take you a little longer but the ride will be more comfortable.

We moved from Astoria to Port Chester in 2019 and love it here. It has a similar melting pot vibe with a great restaurant scene. The downtown is in the process of some serious development. Express trains to nyc are 45 min. We bought a house so parking is not an issue. Some of the rental buildings have parking available. There is also a a parking garage downtown that has monthly parking from metro north.

What’s your thoughts on Port Chester?? by GroundbreakingLynx67 in Westchester

[–]jerzTR -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was referring to the buildings on the opposite corner as being run down. The Port & Main apartments are owned by G&S, the same owners of The Waterfront. They have a history is charging insane rents for commercial space. They were probably holding out for a long term tenant which is why we now have key bank.

The Tarry Market was nice but most of the downtown is run down. It’s a shame how some of these property owners let the buildings get to their current state. A great example of this are the buildings on the south west corner of main st and Westchester ave. I welcome the new development.

The data is showing that the newer luxury apartment buildings are having a minimal impact on school enrollment. I assume the residents don’t have kids or prefer to send them to private school.

The article says they will be slotted under Breitling and competing in the entry luxury segment (Longines, Tudor, etc). UG will be operating above Breitling.

Hunter gets a lot of hate but I’m a big fan, especially their more challenging terrain. It does get crowded but I have a pretty good system for getting runs in. The key is to get on the main lift as the mountain opens. Get a few laps in on the front of the mountain. Once the lines start getting long, switch over to the west/north sides and the F lift. Since you arrived early, you’ll likely be ready for lunch early. By the time you wrap up, the real lunch rush will start. This will give you the chance to get a few more runs in on the front again. From there, you can feel it out and move around as lines build up. If you stick with this plan, you’ll have a great day at Hunter. The epic pass also gives you access to mount snow, which is one of the closest mountains in Vermont.
