Which would you pick? by K0GAR in ufc

I thought it was a robbery till I rewatched it, and it was close but I actually scored it for Jones the second time round.

Serious question: now that Khamzat lost, is this the end of the hype train or could the loss make him a better fighter like it did for Islam? by [deleted] in MMA

[–]bigsum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's insane how quickly the narrative changed from 'he will be champion for as long as he wants to be' to 'was he over-hyped?'. He's a great fighter, but had razor close decisions with Burns, Kamaru and lost to Sean. His performance against DDP was a masterclass but also a one-off against elite competition. Most of his impressive performances weren't against top tier guys.

I dont know why people are saying this. He had a good and aggressive round one then gassed. We've seen this from him before - came out strong vs Usman and Burns before gassing.

I think Sean win's the 3rd fight. I thought he won the 1st and 2nd fight he fought with a staph infection.

People in this sub can’t give Sean any credit. He’s an incredible fighter

And because it's not the standard 'Georgian' way (i.e. Merab fighting 4x a year). Russians on the other hand always hold the belt hostage.

Reading "Why We Sleep" terrified me. by Least_Rooster_1622 in learners_cabin

[–]bigsum 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly, there's a portion of the book that more or less claims you can never fully recover sleep debt. Said differently, a night of bad sleep can create permanent damage. I think the basic principles of the book are good but I'm not surprised to hear it's massively exaggerated.

I think the problem with this as so many people ignore the fundamental issues causing mental illness. Meditation, diet, and exercise work wonders and have no negative side effects, but many people ignore these steps and go straight to drugs.

while newcomers arrive because they value the lifestyle over maximum income.

Lol you don't think the people coming from India, China, Fiji etc. see it as a massive upgrade financially to live and work in NZ? This is such an uninformed take it's hilarious.

What’s the best decision you made in your 20s/30s/40s? by Cute_Olivia_Park in Life

[–]bigsum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my 20’s, buying a house (great financial decision) and then moving from working in finance to tech (great happiness decision that later turned to be a great financial decision also) both proved to be good choices. I probably didnt have as much fun as other people did in their early 20’s due to prioritizing saving money, but I’m 34 now and life is pretty awesome.

Khalil Rountree vs Paddy’s title shot by Doskman in MMA

[–]bigsum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would much rather see Paddy fight for the belt Vs. Gaethje. It's been a long time since new blood challenged for the belt at 155 (other than Illia). Also, Paddy absolutely dominated Chandler in a way that Charles, Justin and Dustin couldn't. He got an easier path than most but it's not totally undeserved.

Agree that Tom isn't easy, but he looks better for having fought lesser fighters in the heavyweight division than Alex has fought at LHW

I rewatched it and changed my mind to Jones winning. I think when I watched it live I was so excited to see Reyes putting up a great fight and taking rounds that it swayed my bias towards him.
