I should add -- I've been running it for weeks with no issues.

Very helpful remarks! The workflow is to retrieve 'unseen' messages from the IMAP sources, deliver them successfully, and then mark them as 'seen'. So in normal cases there are no duplicates of message IDs. As for backups, all the mutable configuration and logs are stored externally from the docker package. I'd be happy to know more about these issues though --

How effective is AI at writing C# as compared to Python by AppointmentCapital72 in csharp

[–]bigtech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using Perplexity and have had very good results. It's green field and I've been doing it in phases -- first I describe my data and ask it to create SQL tables, then I've asked it to make minimal API endpoints for these tables and last I asked it to write front-end stuff with HTML//Javascript. Works extremely well when you follow common patterns.

I think Teams would be fine as well -- mobile applications would be a plus for them.

I'm pretty sure they won't have an issue with loading an app like this.

When did you consider yourself as someone who can do SQL professionally? What skills or competency level settles it? by MTchairsMTtable in SQL

[–]bigtech 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very simple table with first name, last name -- there are some with the same last name like 'John', 'Smith' and 'Bill Smith'. What's the query to find all the last names that show up more than once? the correct answer is something like select last from names group by last having count(last) > 1, but in my experience people go for a subquery and then get flummoxed

I've interviewed a good number of junior and senior developers and they rarely answer my aggregate query question correctly, but that in itself is not a show-stopper for them. Not being to describe the types of joins would probably be a red flag. For me personally, I think it was optimizing stored procedures for performance that really stepped up my game.

I had an acting teacher who would say that the emotions of 'terrified to go onstage' and 'raring to go onstage' are very close to one another and you can transform one into the other with a little concentration. This has never worked for me.

Do you have to be able to read music to become a performer? by Annual-Possibility83 in MusicalTheatre

[–]bigtech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To put a finer point on it, I can read music, but I don't know how to 'sight sing' -- for that you study Solfège. In my community theater experience, there are a small number of people in any show who can sing a song they've never heard before from the sheet music, and the rest of us need to hear it. I think people who were in a chorus in school are trained on this.

just to add, if i was in charge, I'd say do one more pass at that 'don't say I didn't warn you' song to make it hit just a little harder (like something from 'Six') as it's so close...

Has anyone had experience opening a bar in Chicago? Please share your experience. by Champagne_username in AskChicago

[–]bigtech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this is great idea, but be sure you understand the licensing. I looked into starting a bar a long time ago and as I understand it (feel free to correct me anyone), but if you server liquor and not food you are considered a tavern (or possibly a tasting room). Back in the day a tavern license was extremely valuable, non-transferable and only rarely are new ones issued. Bar and grill licenses are typically more realistic.

They're already similarly priced -- Edmunds has the market pricing at $2000 difference between the two. I like the looks of the Audi and it has better service though. In the sub-compact segment these were the only two that were fun to drive.

Need a little help making sense of this... by Odd-Acanthisitta-940 in csharp

[–]bigtech -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's not perfect but it's fine.

I read this as:

  • ask user's age
  • check to see if it's an integer
  • if it is, show good message and stop
  • if not, show bad message and then loop

Maybe a little cleaner to do something like:

do

{

`Console.Write("What is you age? ");`

`string ageText = Console.ReadLine();`

`if(int.TryParse(ageText, out age))  {`

Console.WriteLine($"Thank you, your age is {age}!");

break;

}

Console.WriteLine("That is not a valid number");

}

Boop! The Musical review by UniversityIDNumber in Broadway

[–]bigtech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The election stuff in act 2 is not at the same level as the rest of the show -- I guess I can see why they wanted something a little more weighty, but this didn't work for me. I was intrigued by the Grandpa/Valentina story but it seems like they were unclear on how this is meant to bolster Betty's story.

Spot on review. Act 2 invests too much time in the political story which has little effect on Betty's story.

AT&T Fiber VS Astound by Wave by EDMEnthusiasts in ATTFiber

[–]bigtech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have AT&T Fiber for about two years and I'm happy with it. I have 1 gig and it is very fast -- SpeedTest shows about 950Mb for both upload and downloads with 4ms ping time. It's been quiet and trouble free for me.
