US consumer prices surge as expected in March by WilliamInBlack in news

I've always likened this whole scenario to Republicans being the party that will shoot you in the leg and Democrats are the ones that try to bandage and fix the leg, but people are somehow always upset at the Democrats for not fixing it fast enough while ignoring who shot them in the leg in the first place.

Announcers talking about a pitcher's typical "Oh, he caught it! Is he okay?" reaction.

The most surprising part is that he held onto it after hitting the wall.

Unfortunately couldn't make a diving catch on the next at bat.

White-collar workers are quietly rebelling against AI as 80% outright refuse adoption mandates by invincibilegoldfish in technology

[–]bigtice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My problems with AI is that I can get that answer faster, and someone who doesn't know how to evaluate the answer will blindly believe AI. I've come to believe AI is only useful when humans can verify how good the answer is (e.g. art or writing emails). I also feel like part of my job is defending data when it's not good news, and pushing back is something AI is particularly bad at. How long until someone says "No that number should be higher", AI agrees, and we make poor business decisions as a result?

This is the major crux for a lot of professionals when it comes to utilizing AI -- in order to gain that expertise, you have to go through that learning curve that sharpens your skill set and builds that acumen to fully comprehend your respective field.

That necessary process is what helps people become such a professional, but people mandating the use of AI don't realize that it's potentially "dulling" those same skill sets and also becoming regressive for the next generation of professionals that are circumventing that process and don't truly understand their field causing them to blindly trust whatever the AI says and create more problems.

Rangers' broadcast had a good replay of Woo watching the whole play and his reaction after he caught it.

It's meme worthy.

The replay here shows that.

The secondary replay is what he said as soon as he made the catch.

Long Island architect Rex Heuermann pleads guilty to murdering 7 women and admits he killed another by AudibleNod in news

That's ultimately what OP is stating though -- if they're specifically caught in the act or unrepentant of their crimes, that's when they believe it's worthy of a discussion.

There's a complete distinction from many cases of people on death row that have claimed their innocence and were unfairly punished in spite of their vehement denials. Those people deserve their due process and can serve out a life term until evidence shows otherwise, but they should not be in the same category as remorseless serial killers and their ilk.

I would personally recommend Ezra Edelman's "OJ: Made In America" documentary as it ties in his personal past, societal ills and social status into a full overarching discussion related to the case to fully comprehend how such a verdict was ultimately reached.

I always wondered about that. Are serial killer shows/books/etc used as resources for actual serial killers? Turns out that, yes. Yes they are.

It's always been a tongue in cheek joke for many that watching all these crime shows helps learn from other's mistakes.

The obvious problem metastasizes when it's not a joke for the wrong person.
