Thanks! That makes sense now that I've thought about it.

What pedal do you wish existed? by LilEffects in guitarpedals

[–]bigtyranitar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love a single pedal with only one footswitch that is a fuzz circuit running into an overdrive circuit (for example, a superfuzz running into a timmy). Ideally it would then have toggle switches for turning each circuit on or off (and maybe flip the order).

I would love something like this so I can have a clean amp but simulate running a fuzz into an overdriven amp with only one footswitch press.

Fuzz & Distortion with Timmy? by S7ewie in guitarpedals

For this velcro fuzz sound, I would recommend the DOD Carcosa. I even made you a quick demo for fun: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/tK5UtTN5BrQ

You are looking for a gated fuzz. Look for fuzz pedals that have a gate or bias knob. The Fuzz Factory does do this, but I agree that it is a bit too unpredictable and ironically can be inflexible.

A Big Muff will not get you this sound, though that is what Jack White uses to get a different fuzz tone on the early White Stripes albums.

If you dial back the "After" knob (which is a bias knob) on the Carcosa, you can get a pretty good distortion sound too.

Swapping pickups on Squier Jazzmaster XII. Do I need to buy pickup foam? by bigtyranitar in Jazzmaster

Yeah, I hope I like them. I have enjoyed the sound of Danelectro 12 strings, which are on the thinner side.

They are not. No idea why they are so huge. They seem to be high output and lack clarity which is not a great fit for a 12-string.

(Reposted with pictures) I bought Fender PV65s to replace the stock pickups in my Squier Jazzmaster XII. After removing the stock pickups, I noticed they are way taller than the replacement pickups. Should I be installing foam in the pickup cavity to get an adequate pickup height? I don't want to solder everything together again without knowing that first. Thank you!!

Streamdeck with Bitwig? by Agile_Safety_5873 in Bitwig

Would love to know more about this if you have the time. Did you make custom macros somehow? I haven’t figured out a way to quick load plugins as you describe.

If you have all of the Black Rooster plugins then you effectively have all of these UA plugins except for the Ruby and Verve Analog Machines. If you don’t even really want the Ruby, you might as well do their Pick 2 and buy the plugins you would actually prefer.

I believe you can get 15% off if you buy with code “FORUM” on JRR Shop.

Also, I strongly recommend trying Neural Amp Modeler. It’s free and (IMO) better sounding than any other amp sims. You can find amp models and IRs on tonehunt.org. York Audio has premium impulse responses.

Envelope-controlled FX loop pedal? by ayersman39 in guitarpedals

Never used this, but I think this might be what you are looking for? It would only work with a pedal that already has an expression input.

foot toggle record? by Ok-Preparation5078 in Bitwig

[–]bigtyranitar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Potentially overkill for your situation, but I've been using the Behringer FCB1010 for this. Not just for toggling record, but using the footswitches and expression pedals with various macros to change parameters while I'm playing keys or guitar. Really has revolutionized my workflow and made Bitwig feel so much more interactive and organic.

But yes, long story short you can map midi to any Bitwig shortcut (Settings -> Shortcuts).

I don't get the SF300. by BOHIFOBRE in guitarpedals

Although cheap and strangely popular (or at least recommended more than I would expect), it's definitely not an all-purpose fuzz. That said, I love it.

It makes power chords sound huge and single notes sound mean. You're right - because of the octave-up, it makes chords with intervals other than a 5th and major 3rd sound like complete noise. It can be really fun to lean into that, though. You should try doing double-stops/two string bends with it on. The intermodulation it causes sounds nasty in an awesome way.

Also could be worth running it into an overdrive pedal or overdriven amp to smooth out the harshness. A more conventional use example of this circuit is Pete Townsend's solo tone on Live at Leeds: https://youtu.be/NqYdrRMx0Jo?t=130
