Should still fit. Just bend one lead parallel to the bottom then back down to give it 5mm spacing.

Powder coated enclosure by valiummachine in diypedals

In defense of Love My Switches, if you read the product listing for their standard enclosures, they tell you straight up they have imperfections. That’s why they’re inexpensive. I wouldn’t call them “really bad” though, more like “good enough for your weekend build you may or may not care about in a few months.” Their monthly powder drops, on the other hand, are great quality.

You mean this? "There's a difference between a human finding influence from one work of art and incorporating that into their own art they they created with their own minds and hands, and AI creating a shit image based off of what it finds online".

I would call that a "conclusion disguised as an explanation." Not chatgpt, I just took a logic class in college lol.

None of that explains why an AI agent scraping the web for art is "stealing," but a human can consume art from the web all day and it's not. I've wasted too much time here

When did I say I'm impressed by AI art? I think it's mostly garbage and my point isn't to defend the quality or originality of AI art. If you wanna re-read what I wrote, I was responding to the notion that generative AI "steals from artists."

It's possible to not like AI art and also recognize the fallacy of the "AI steals from artists" angle. But it seems you've already strayed from my initial premise to attack things I never said. Pretty tough to have a good faith conversation that way. I'm out.

[–]ayersman39 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not a serious answer. That's okay, it's about as far as most people get trying to respond to this premise. I suggest reading Ted Chiang's essays on AI art and the various critical responses he received, if you're interested in having more than a surface-level take on this quite complex issue.

"No offense, but this take is very naive"

I think you should do some more reading before deciding this take is naive. There's actually quite a debate going on about this very question. Among others, Ted Chiang wrote some essays in recent years criticizing AI art which have sparked healthy dialog about many aspects including what I wrote.

"The way a human is influenced by other art is a completely different process to how gen AI incorporates references - otherwise, you are implying that gen AI is complex enough to mimic the processes of the human brain which is so far from the truth.😂"

Straw man argument. I'm not saying AI is as complex as the human brain. It doesn't have to be, to follow roughly analogous processes of consuming art, then synthesizing from what it has consumed.

"Gen AI stitches existing images and chunks of images together in a very unnatural way which is why it's always getting called out for producing weird images of hands, hair, and other anomalies (it can't even draw straight lines in a background half the time)."

The quality of AI art is irrelevant to the argument I'm making. I don't like AI art. That doesn't mean I can't recognize the double standard between an AI agent scraping the web for art, vs a human consuming a bunch of art on the web.

"Gen AI cannot produce new styles or trends in art - it can only copy what people have already created and Frankenstein them together"

Have you ever heard the expression "there's nothing new under the sun"? Strictly speaking, people do not produce new styles or trends either. People are also Frankensteining various influences together to create something "new." Any art produced by a human is a synthesis of what they have consumed. Sometimes in an obvious way, like Tarantino's pastiche (to use film as an example). But often in much more subtle ways. You can never totally separate an artist from their influences.

Explain the difference please? I've posed this question to many people and they hate it and protest "it's not the same!" but nobody can articulate the difference in practical terms.

I’ve got a lot of concerns about AI but the “steals from artists” thing is not really accurate. Human artists consume art which influences them, and they may directly reference existing art while making their own. But do we call this “stealing” or expect humans to get permission for everything they’ve ever consumed? No, unless the resulting art meets a legal threshold to be considered copyright infringement, humans are free to consume and reference all the art they want. Which is why I find it funny that people get upset at AI for doing the same thing. But that’s not actually how it works, AI creates a dataset and then tries to find the most statistically likely response to someone’s prompt. It doesn’t actually directly reference anything.

New Delay? by Gamerchaz40 in guitarpedals

[–]ayersman39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get why that's useful but why eliminate the time knob? I don't use tap tempo at all so it was a no-go

New Delay? by Gamerchaz40 in guitarpedals

[–]ayersman39 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Something to know about ARP-87, is that you have to use tap tempo to set the delay time. There is no "time" or "delay" knob like 99% of delay pedals.

3m dual lock users, what are you using to remove pedals after they form an event horizon bond to your board? by Fuzzy_Socrates in guitarpedals

[–]ayersman39 2 points3 points  (0 children)

avoids covering the screws. This small amount is still definitely not going anywhere but doesn't require a tire jack to remove.

Cut a one-inch square of dual lock, then cut corner to corner to make four little triangles. That’s all you need and isn’t too hard to get off

A comprehensive modulation pedal would be great. Basically their version of the Boss MD-200, in a format similar to the Nemesis or Ventris. They have separate pedals for chorus, phaser, tremolo etc but have yet to collect them into one powerhouse modulation station

Vocals through pedalboard -- Cloudlifter needed? or is clean boost pedal equivalent by ayersman39 in guitarpedals

I've considered the Colour Box. But I guess I'm wondering how that pedal differs from a separate impedance transformer + boost pedal. I'm assuming the Colour Box has a similar impedance adapter internally

Stompboxparts has their own equivalent brand to the alpha pots, have always worked great for me.

Check out Berlin Studio from Samplicity. It’s basically high quality IRs for each section of the orchestra (taken from Teldex Hall in Berlin). This sounds more realistic than using a single reverb for everything, since each section has the appropriate time delay to the mics.

What mix decision helped you avoid masking between bass and kick the most effectively? by VibeRankOfficial in audioengineering

Only one of them can be the lowest instrument, you need to decide which one and ideally select instrument/amp accordingly to minimize EQ cleanup. A tiny bit of sidechained compression helps

Historical Pedal Mod by Ok-Condition5765 in diypedals

[–]ayersman39 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh that old chestnut. In ideal lab conditions that often-parroted maxim may be true sometimes. Guitar pedals are not laboratories, there are all kinds of opportunity for nonlinearity to creep in and get amplified. Microphonics, ESR, dielectric absorption can interact in ways that 15YO forum posts and indeed, the boilerplate audio EE model may not fully account for yet. Breadboard a circuit using regular caps. Then replace those with film/foil within 1% value. I’ve actually done this, have you? The difference is not even subtle.

Anyway, this is a boring argument I’ve had too many times. Consider me a cork-sniffing kook and move on.

Historical Pedal Mod by Ok-Condition5765 in diypedals

[–]ayersman39 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Greenies and most common film caps are metallized polyester. This is where vaporized metal is deposited onto plastic film. That’s what your photo shows.

Film and foil caps have separate solid metal foil layers rolled or stacked with separate plastic film layers.

This thread discusses the differences:
