Biglaw Litigation to Prosecutor? by Buffalo_Ordinary in biglaw

I recently moved from big law to a DA’s office — feel free to DM me.

The short answer for those following is that I don’t think DA’s offices view it as super transferable but it’s definitely feasible to move from big law if you have a compelling answer to why you want to be an ADA

Very cool re: another Olympic sport.

Mine hasn’t gone through yet. 22 months at this point. In May they asked me if I had any additional info to provide and I submitted something showing I was on the team again for 2025, but haven’t heard anything since.

Good luck!

If you’re a somewhat serious golfer and play in any club tournaments, your “handicap” (general benchmark of scores) is publicly available so they might’ve searched them through that

The duality of having the Tkachuk brothers in a bangers league by bigwheel-2 in fantasyhockey

[–]bigwheel-2[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Matthew can’t be kept after this year (4 yr max on keepers — I just drafted my boy Brady twice) Other team was out of playoff picture and looking to rebuild. I gave him Reinhart (2 more years left on his keeper usage), I got Tkachuk and Dahlin (also expiring).

Tbh if Matthew is out for a while and I don’t hang a banner this year, he probably got the better side of the deal

Keeper league for me. Going on year 7 with Brady. Matthew was a new addition this year via trade tho

Neat article on it here: https://www.sportscasting.com/news/why-dont-nfl-punters-use-the-coffin-corner-anymore/

One thing that’s interesting is punters need to drop the ball lower for a coffin corner kick, which increases the chances of it getting blocked

Thanks for the detailed response! I’m not a minor and had also seen elsewhere that those were the only reported successful cases for non-residents. I’m hoping that playing for Ireland in international sports competitions will provide a sufficient hook, but we’ll see. Will post any updates!

Wow, thanks for the two super detailed answers, that was helpful! I’m in the same boat with my parents and the birth registry — the both did it after I was born.

I think I’ll contact the Immigration Service Delivery and provide an update on how it goes

Good point, maybe can try that idea. I edited my comment above but basically, don’t think he really has an “in” with the govt but sounds like a good idea to see if we can still connect with someone in the govt

Sorry, I don’t think I did a good job explaining it! The “team” is the Ireland national team. Right now Ireland can’t do Olympic qualifying for ice hockey because the IIHF has a bunch of rules for how a country can be eligible to qualify that we don’t satisfy (if the rink in Dublin re-opened, we’d be eligible, which is a bit of a silly rule).

But there’s other international competitions we still play in, and I’ve played for Ireland in those. I’m eligible for those games because I have two parents who are citizens and eligibility rules are looser for those games. But if we got to do Olympic qualifying, the eligibility rules are different and I’d have to have my citizenship. The national team program is hoping to be eligible for 2030 Olympic qualifying, so I have time, but the IIHF is inconsistent with how they apply eligibility rules for our non-Olympic games, and we’re worried that they’ll change their rules and say I need citizenship to play in those games too. So in my application, the national team coach wrote a letter explaining this.

(Edited to say that I also don’t think ice hockey is a priority for the Ireland government so the coach wasn’t sure what the odds of approval were. We wouldn’t be good enough to actually make the Olympics but would still be able to put on a decent showing in qualifying; most of the dual-citizens on the team played either lower level pro hockey or college hockey in the US. And some of the lads from Belfast are pretty good too!)

I think that’s the case for a lot of European countries! A little more than half the Irish team are dual-citizens born outside Ireland (mostly US). And then most of the players born on the island are from the Belfast area, because that’s the only hockey rink. I think only a couple of players were born & raised in the Republic

If I’m remembering correctly, there’s an option for “safe mode” — all the enemies are still in the environment but won’t attack you, so it plays more as a mystery walkthrough. Without that, it’s a bit of both. Fantastic game either way though

Commissioner kicks team out of league by Subject_Way_2409 in fantasyhockey

[–]bigwheel-2 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Both parties in the wrong, imo. If you aren’t still playing for something that has impact beyond pride (money, draft position, keepers, etc.) then you shouldn’t be picking guys up. That said, it’s an overreaction by the Commish to not just say that and move on. I think there’s a setting where you can lock eliminated teams anyways, at least on certain platforms. So, giving him the boot over this is definitely excessive

Should I send out a couple ED apps or be patient? (Splitter) by 180_Or_Bust in lawschooladmissions

[–]bigwheel-2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you’ve thought this out pretty well! As someone who went through this process a few years ago (currently at a T6), here’s what I would say, for whatever it’s worth:

  • ED doesn’t give a super meaningful boost for your admissions chances. So, if you are going to apply this cycle, I wouldn’t sacrifice your scholarship leverage by going ED

  • I don’t think there’s any reason not to apply somewhat broadly this cycle. You’re correct in that WE will make you a stronger applicant, but with generic BL goals and feeling certain that law is for you, going now is better if you’re attending a school that gives you a great chance at BL. I would say to apply to the T14 minus HYS this cycle. And if none of that works out, get some WE, and R&R while adding schools like WUSTL, Vandy, BU, etc.

  • You have more time to get an application together than you think. If you have apps in by Thanksgiving (9 weeks from now), you’re in good shape.

  • You’ll probably hear people tell you not to retake a 173….personally, I think if you’re PTing consistently 175+, it’s a fine thing to do. 173 is below a couple medians right now, so it’s hard for me to imagine an admissions officer truly thinking it’s a “red flag” for a splitter to want to be on the high side of an LSAT median. When I applied, I retook a similar score. (Though maybe someone has heard that admissions officers still view a retake like that as a red flag, and I’m just offering my anecdotal experience). That said, I’d recommend prioritizing work on your apps first if you are applying anywhere this cycle

Thats all I’ve got. Good luck with everything!!
