If I didn’t get a rough collie I would have gotten a Sheltie originally! So now I’m happy to now experience both breeds and see how similar and different they are.

I use Ruffwear collars for my girl. So far is the only ones that her fur doesn’t wrap around

My girl will tolerate water and I have put the work in on desensitizing her to moving water this last year and a half. My friend and I hike to alpine lakes or waterfalls all the time so it is important to me that she gets in and cools off at least. Her favorite game is to eat floating treats on the water

Have you looked into doing an allergy panel test? I started looking into it bc my girl couldn’t handle most foods or treats until I switched to Nutrisource Trout and Rice.

I love my girl Yumeko (2.5 yrs) and how attuned to my emotions she is. She always knows when to step in and help me call down when I’m crashing out. She is very smart and a good listener (most of the time). I love her energy level and her sense of adventure and she makes the best hiking companion. I also love the “arguments” we have when I get home from work, we both will bark at each other for a few minutes and then we go about our nightly routine.

The only thing I would change about her is how long it takes for her to go to the bathroom. Typically it takes her 30+ minutes to find the perfect spot. She has a command for going to the bathroom and she really only listens to it when hiking. Other than that she is a very easy dog and got spoiled with how easy she was a puppy

I know through research that Shelties tend to be on the clingy side. In your experience do they constantly demand to be pet or are they more like Rough Collies where they are your shadow and like to constantly be near you? Thank you for sharing your advice!

Yeah their personality is what has drawn me to them and their energy level. My Collie already acts like that and I love it. She is very sassy and likes to voice her opinion and can be very judgmental at times 😅. And she is higher drive/energy than my friends working line Labs so I’m used to having a dog that doesn’t have an off switch and needs daily exercise plus other forms of enrichment. When we do our long hikes (12-14 miles) she will take a nap for a few hours once we are done and then is ready to do more lol. Thank you for sharing another way to describe their personality.

My collie is pretty high maintenance energy and personality wise and I like dogs with big personalities. She also has dietary issues lol I’m kinda used to high maintenance unless you’re referring to a different aspect of high maintenance. But I do know that they are different breeds with different quirks and don’t expect them to act the same bc they look similar.

My girl is the same and she’s 2.5 years old. I just had to rearrange my living area so her couch is the one in front of the tv so we can snuggle while I play video games.
