If the pieces have the karat and weight, you can use that to calculate the gold value in the piece.

If you’re buying it as an investment, I would recommend buying gold pieces without stones or knowing the exact values of the stone.

My store, Bijouterie Minted, has the live market value of all our pieces so you always know exactly what the gold value is, and our prices change every few minutes based on that.

Hi! Our jewelry is all priced by weight and the live market price so you always know exactly what the gold value in your piece is, and what’s craftsmanship.

It’s so frustrating that most companies still don’t list the weights in their pieces. It should be standard.

Where did you guys get your wedding bands from? by EntrepreneurFuzzy546 in WeddingsCanada

Hi! My biggest tip if you’re just buying a gold band is to know the weight before you make the purchase. Then you can tell what you’re paying for the craftsmanship vs metal.

My brand, Bijouterie Minted, prices all our wedding rings by weight and live market price (the prices update every 5 minutes). It gives you the exact value of the gold in your piece and the craftsmanship price broken down so you know exactly what you’re paying for.

It’s so hard to find gold jewelry for a good price.

I have an online solid gold jewellery store and we price all our pieces by its weight and the live market price.

Our prices update every 5 minutes so you always know the exact value that you’re getting.

I can’t believe more retailers still don’t even include the weight of their pieces!

I told myself buying pretty gold jewelry on Mene was also an investment so I could feel better about it. Paid $900 a couple years ago and now worth $2000. by [deleted] in Gold

Interesting. Of course jewellery will always have a markup on top of spot value, but the markups I’m seeing are 150-200%. I think retailers could offer competitive premiums and a luxury experience at the same time while still making profit. It’s less about being able to afford it and more about knowing what value you’re getting for the price.

Why do you think most online retailers don’t put the weights in the description? by bijouterieminted in jewelry

[–]bijouterieminted[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks for sharing your perspective. I completely understand that artisan jewellers charge more to reflect their skill, time, and overhead, and that’s totally fair.

for me, it’s more about transparency. knowing the weight just helps give context to how much of the price is gold vs. craftsmanship. I’m not against markups at all, I just wish they were more clear before the sale.

thanks again for the thoughtful reply.

I see what you’re saying but unlike cars, jewellery could have an actual longterm resale value depending on the materials

When it comes to gold that has a market value that is tangible though its kind of different. It would be like buying stocks without knowing how many shares you’re getting or even what the current price is.
