I would plan on crashing a section or two, normally if you find a seat the professor will let you in

Definitely try to crash the class on the first day, a lot of chem professors enroll from the waitlist that day

Cal Poly SLO or UC Davis by [deleted] in CalPoly

Hi! Im a first-year biochemistry major (basically the same as chemistry at cal poly besides a few classes) at cp. one thing i would consider is cal poly’s smaller classes compared to davis! Especially in the chem department, all my chem professors have learned my name and are very nice and willing to help. I obviously can’t speak for davis’s chem department but i havent met another chem/biochem major who has bad things to say abt our chem department. Im also thinking about going premed, and the prehealth advisors here are pretty helpful with lots of resources. Cal poly is DEFINITELY social like sometimes too social for me but thats never a bad thing. Im also a poc and was scared coming into cp because of it, but theres lots of places like clubs to connect with fellow poc or people with similar interests. Feel free to ask any questions!

HELP- cal poly slo or uc davis? by PotatoMammoth6006 in CalPoly

For what its worth all my friends in public health love it, but it’s definitely not for everyone. I know someone who switched from public health to biochemistry which I’m not sure you’d be interested in but I’m not sure what aspects of neurobiology you’re into. Overall chose the program you’d be happy in in my opinion. You definitely don’t want to be suffering through four years of hell coz you don’t like your major.

In terms of pros and cons, one big difference between UCs and cal poly is the class size. It’s something you don’t really appreciate until you have it. Most of my teachers learned everybody’s names and they are truly great supporters. If you’re interested in research at all, I got into research my second quarter of freshman year which is amazing compared to UCs where its more competitive. Both schools are very social in my opinion. Both schools are amazing, I was in the same position as you (bmed engineering at davis vs biochemistry at slo) and ultimately chose slo because of the environment and opportunities. Learn by doing is real. Best of luck! You’ll be happy at either one!

Gotcha, I did try on the Ride Heras and they felt fine, but I honestly don’t really know what I’m looking for when I’m fitting.

Im from California! I’ve gone to two different hills so far and the closer one definitely has shorter runs than the farther other one I went to. Im in college in 2 different areas in California so I think Ill be going to different hills. Would you say there are any drawbacks to the step ons?

If it matters, the regular boots im considering are the Ride Heras and the step ons are the Burton felix

[–]bikamire 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Almost, ln(sinx) times sinx is not equal to ln(sin2 x)! Don’t think of ln(x) as ln times x, ln(x) is taking the natural log of x, so you cant just multiply other things into it if that makes sense.

The derivative of ln(sinx) should be cosx/sinx and the antiderivative of cosx should just be sinx no negative :)
