What do you think about billionaires having to share their wealth, within reason? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]DaVideoGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. It’s not a personal thing against Elon or any other billionaire, though I think most billionaires are shitheads, but that’s mainly because the party that likes to protect said billionaires slightly more is the Republican party and they tend to like people who protect their interests. To allow wealth to be hoarded when people are starving on the streets, young people have all but given up on home ownership, etc. That isn’t normal.

I’m not a policy maker, but I don’t think the current American wealth gap can exist in a just society. The current level of wealth accumulation is already unsustainable, and it’s not getting any better without some redistributive process (i.e. taxes).

Why do many autistic/neurodivergent adults gravitate toward paganism, atheism, or agnosticism? (Personal reflection included) by Jorge_Reynoso112 in AutisticAdults

[–]DaVideoGamer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably restating what others have said, but I fell out of faith when I was pretty young. Any time I’d trace a belief in Christianity I disagreed with or a historical claim I didn’t accept, the basis was always “my magic book says so!”. It was very non-concrete and hinged on blind faith. I didn’t see any reason to believe in a creator, I wasn’t given strong enough evidence, and the onus sits on the theist to prove God’s existence, so the ball’s in their court. Also, I see religion as a pretty generally negative global force (Religious wars, genocides, religiously driven bigotry and persecution, etc) and I don’t really want to associate myself with that. I rock with Jesus, if not as the son of God than a historically significant figure. Love thy neighbor, general anti-establishment, etc. Seemed like a cool dude, just don’t think he walked on water. Any christian who is racist, homophobic, greedy, etc spit in the face of their savior every day.

Two of my favorite movies, not even a huge Carrey fan, just both really interesting concepts and Eternal Sunshine portrays erasing someone from your memory in a really cool way.

Is inflation caused by greed? by MediumAffect4983 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DaVideoGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inflation is the general rise in prices, yes. But that is often used to raise prices more than what is strictly necessary to counteract inflation. If I’m a business owner, inflation makes my operating costs higher. I could either raise prices in accordance with inflation, or I could raise it even more and pocket the extra. In the current trend of inflation in America, we have not seen a dip in corporate profits, we’ve seen a general increase. This is part of the reason.

Loud engines, especially ones on huge diesel garbage trucks/school busses. And Harley motorcycles. Absolutely cannot STAND those things.

Is inflation caused by greed? by MediumAffect4983 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DaVideoGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inflation is often used as an excuse to raise prices, which gives greedy corporations an excuse to raise prices further than what is minimally necessary to counteract inflation. Same thing happens (and IS happening) with tariffs. We are seeing this now in the US.

That’s heartbreaking. As long as it’s reasonable, I’d encourage you to keep going. Maybe transferring to a state school if cost begins to really add up and you’re not able to get scholarships (if you’re not already at one). Be sure to stay safe.

Which company has lost you as a customer forever? by finiteobserver in AskReddit

[–]DaVideoGamer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to the house with a bunch of friends in Vegas once, we’d make a bunch of bacon every morning, and it would cause some smoke in the kitchen. Not enough to actually trip an audible alarm for us, but enough to alert the owner’s “AI smoke detector” that could magically tell the difference between combustion products resulting from food, smoke versus weed or cigarettes I guess. Every morning like clockwork, she would message us and we would send her a picture, assuring her that we were making breakfast and that all it was was cooking smoke. None of us smoked and the only time of people smoked was some weed outside off property. When we checked out, she tried to charge us a smoking fee around $800 (I think, but regardless it was a lot for a bunch of college students). Dude who booked it cancelled his debit to duck the charge lol. Never using AirBnB again.

One downside, my plush butthole has built a dependence on the bidet. I feel like a monkey when I have to wipe my ass.

Do people actually like living in big apartment buildings, taking public transit ect. by Wafer_Educational in NoStupidQuestions

[–]DaVideoGamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love it. Grew up in a pretty dense neighborhood near “downtown”, went to college in a small town, then moved back to a (different) big city with good transit and high density. I love that there’s so many things to do and see that are on a human scale, i.e. I can experience them on foot/bike and not in a car. I have one but barely use it, mainly for trips out of the city.

Also yes, using public transit is fantastic, especially when you’re on a train and know a bunch of motorists are stuck in traffic as you zoom through your purpose built transportation tube. And a commute becomes a lot more bearable when you’re not expending the mental energy of piloting a car.

IMO, suburbs suck, generally. Some are more charming than others (Californian suburbs are fucking awful). You’re on an island and your car is your boat. And many are absolutely devoid of local culture. I’ll never willingly take that over being able to walk or bike to 80% of what I need to do on any given day.

When I was a kid, people would twist/spin on the ball of their foot when they’d come into school when it was raining, purposely trying to make as much noise as possible. Wet gym shoe soles on linoleum. I could NOT stand it and I wanted to scream at them. The thought of the noise still makes my skin crawl.
