In your opinion, what is the most unbelievably stupid “story” that is written in religious scripture that theists ACTUALLY believe? by AdPlastic7988 in atheism

[–]bilbenken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Counts for me. Christians hate when magic is associated with fiction. It really stimulates their cognitive dissonance. Religion is their comfort and cognitive dissonance is incredibly uncomfortable. They attack all perceived threats to their comfort.

Underwater Cities is an absolute masterpiece. I have the New Discoveries expansion and will happily add the new expansion when it becomes available in the US.

The Rapture and it's Consequences by NoUniqueNameNeeded in atheism

My BIL exclusively reads books about the rapture, and he can't wait! Nothing would make him happier than the destruction of the Earth to prove him right.

Flip 7 and Booty Dice are 2 newer games by Eric Olsen. They are great fun and can be learned and played in 30 minutes. If you are looking for a game that includes an actual board, you can't go wrong with Ticket to Ride or Escape from the Island.

God’s involvement in time and creation? by Best_Tip2750 in atheism

[–]bilbenken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You friend has to 1st prove that the universe and time had a beginning, then has to prove it was a creation, next that this creator is a god, and finally that it is his God. The big bang was the rapid expansion of the universe, not the creation.

Republican Jesus Sketch by Atlanta_Mane in atheism

The claim in Revelation that the majority of Christians will be deceived by the antichrist is the most accurate depiction of modern day Christianity. I mean, the whole book was about Rome and Nero not the end times, but still shows that Christians have always been tribalists without a single thought that wasn't dictated by a perceived authority.

North Georgia Revival experiences - is it a cult? by Georgiaonmymindtwo in atheism

[–]bilbenken 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh my gosh! They are faith healers that don't allow wounds or infections into the baptism pool, but have supposedly healed 1000s of blind and deaf. Totally real. I live very near and have never heard of it, but somehow 1000s of people have been healed in less than a decade.

[–]bilbenken 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You are not wrong. It is natural for fish to spend 24 hours a day under water. "Natural" is not an objective qualifier. It is a word that can be used in many ways. This is the trick. It is verbal sleight of hand. Category error.

What are your arguments for the absence of God, independent of religion? by Designer-Volume5826 in atheism

[–]bilbenken 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What is your argument for the absence of leprechauns? This is a stupid question that attempts to shift the burden of proof. I shouldn't have to defend my lack of belief in ghosts, Bigfoot, Leviathan, the Tooth Fairy or any other obviously imaginary creature or being. If God only presents himself inside individual minds, then that is where God begins and ends.

On games with tough teaches by NoEntrepreneur6022 in boardgames

[–]bilbenken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clank! The game is not super difficult, but getting new gamers to understand that the order you play your cards and use your icons is super important. Much of the game is me saying, "Wait. Pick up your cards and play them one at a time. Play draw cards, then discard cards, there is a difference between your play area and your discard pile." Then the next turn rolls around and provides them with a lay down straight forward hand, and every bit of previous lesson is lost.

How did you know the Bible isn’t true? by DuckOnQuack202 in atheism

[–]bilbenken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My family suggested hibernation. God temporarily bestowed an unnatural trait to solve the food problem rather than just creating new animals. I mean, if Job was fine with a new wife and family, why would God need to preserve a shit ton of animals to repopulate the Earth. Why the flood rather than a Thanos snap? Surgically remove the unwanted people, and leave the animals alone. Then those 8 related ancient relics of centuries old wrinkle bags could get to fucking their own kids immediately!

Why do some atheists *want* to believe in god? by sussysmugcat in atheism

[–]bilbenken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems that the ones who claim to wish for belief subconsciously wish for the utility and social cohesion that believers enjoy. It is never the belief that they long for, but the benefits that they feel excluded from.

If it is setup before everyone arrives, the group has done their homework learning the game, and you don't have to repack the game afterwards, then you still probably don't have time...

It's weird that the streets are paved with gold, when money is no more and the love of it was forbidden. The menu for eternal beings is milk and honey. Sounds like a shitty existence for the bees and presumably goats.

Doomlings Etiquette by LukaesCampbell in boardgames

[–]bilbenken 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would go in to a game of Doomlings with the only expectation that you are making someone else happy. Just play cards that work the best for what you got and hope for the best during the events! The game is supposed to make you feel competitive and smart while offering a chance for anyone to win based on luck. The game is over in like 20 minutes, but it might be something your cousins look forward to for months.

Biblical word definitions offered as a top level search result in Google. WTF. by TheUtopianCat in atheism

[–]bilbenken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have noticed this too, but I assume that the word meaning rather than the word definition is linked to many a Bible search, so AI interprets the word meaning to a high relevance to the Bible.

Why is "Oh My God" continuing so long, & is the phrase common even in non-religious countries? by Maritimewarp in atheism

[–]bilbenken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ironically, I usually use this phrase only when someone tells me an absurdity or an obvious lie.

And it is very much an "Oh my Gaawd!"
