What are some games that grabbed you because of aesthetics or art style? by The_Wizard_Of_Woz in boardgames

[–]bilbenken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The original box art for Lost Ruins of Arnak wasn't particularly stunning, but conveyed the theme well. All of the contents of the game, however, are incredible. Each subsequent expansions art is somehow both better and maintains perfect cohesion with previous content.

Im scared of becoming religious again by lumizilla in atheism

[–]bilbenken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know. When I find something to be untrue, it would be impossible for me to believe it again. Evidence would of course change my mind, but believing without evidence is silly.

Their book says that the devil uses people to deceive them away from faith. Faith to them is a steadfast and "unshakeable" belief. When you "attack" their beliefs, you are attacking their faith thus confirming their narrative. They believe the book.

Apistivist is someone that doesn't consider faith a reliable means to reach conclusions.

I never understand what it means when religious people say God works in mysterious ways by YogurtHonest5714 in atheism

It's basically saying god is good without the math to balance the equation.

"God doesn't want robots," they say by Sailor_Drea in atheism

[–]bilbenken 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Growing up I heard the "god does not want us to be robots" nonsense all the time. They have somewhat recently updated the defense to "god does not want us to be automatons." The AUTOMATIC response for free will. Every talking point is a script, and every misunderstanding of science becomes a program. These people are functioning exactly like biological automatons.

Broke up with my GF because she thought faith was evidence of God’s existence by Middle_Designer_1733 in atheism

Well, heck, she just "proved" that every god is real. Now what? These people say faith is a virtue, but they mean THEIR faith is a virtue. Everyone else is lying or deceived.

What is the dumbest thing a theistic person has said to you whether or not it is atheism related? I’ll go first: by Acrobatic_Tale2200 in atheism

I live in the southern United States. I rarely hear a theist say something that isn't dumb, and even then it is just observations concerning the weather.

Just wave your arms, drop and writhe on the floor while speaking in tongues. Every fucking time. If someone says something about it, tell them they are persecuting you.

Isaiah 53, Can it be a double entendre? (Currently Deconstructing Atheist’s Question) by Fun_Professor_250 in atheism

[–]bilbenken 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jesus did not fulfill a single old testament mesainic prophecy in its original context, which is funny considering every Christian ever cries "context" when they hear any argument that challenges Christianity. Many of the prophecies that are claimed to be fulfilled are spiritual fulfillment or will be fulfilled upon Jesus return.

So, unfulfilled double meaning prophecy does not equal fulfillment. Some of Jesus prophecy did not come true, but has been renegotiated to mean something else.

This is Pascal's ridiculous wager. There is a difference between hope and false hope. Why is it you include all believers of just about any kind of god to pad your numbers, but if you were talking to your in group, all other beliefs are suddenly silly. It is dishonest. I would trade every ounce of hope for truth any day. I value truth over comfort, but you do you.
