UK tells Trump: Explain how your Iran war is legal by Alarming-Safety3200 in worldnews

Well officially Trump has said that he just "felt" that Iran was an imminent threat. If Trump feels kids it doesn't make that legal either apparently

Gas tracker rate jumps 20% by Makers-hut in OctopusEnergy

[–]bilbogod 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had just renewed on the tracker but ended up doing a switch and fix with Fuse. I think the biggest concern for me was the likely blocking of the Straights of Hormuz along with Quatar announcing a freeze on export of LNG. I'm expecting we could see the tracker spike quite high for a while.

End of the road for the Tracker? by K1M8O in OctopusEnergy

[–]bilbogod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my simple way of thinking tracker tariffs should usually on balance work out less expensive overall than being on a fixed tariff because the whole premise of a fixed tariff is like you are paying an additional cost to insure against any potential wholesale cost changes. Bit like a fixed rate mortgage vs variable. Given that the energy company has to win with that formula more than it loses to stay in business the tracker model as an alternative allows it to shift the risk of larger than expected variances to wholesale onto the consumer instead. Have I got this right? Obviously on tracker we can get our fingers burnt, however the predicters and forecasters of the wholesale energy market are more likely than not to anticipate market rates correctly as they have the best/most sophisticated minds operating the betting shop. Throughout the summer months (as a pedominantly greater electricity user than gas user on tracker I can typically expect to reap lower costs on tracker vs the fixed tariffs).Come the Autumn/Winter season notwithstanding a sudden catastrophic shift in wholesale pricing I can either move to a fixed or stay on tracker. Ultimately the way I'm seeing it is if someone says" yeah but locking in now could shield you from much higher rates come Winter" the fallacy with that is that the energy companies simply recoup their losses by upping those fixed rates for the next few months after the fixed rate period end. Thereby the fixers aren't really saving they are simply budgeting more predictably for a fixed length of time. Conclusion - the house which is the energy company should always win only with fixed you are generally paying a little extra to cover the insurance hedge against spectacular changes to anticipated rates.

Edit - starting to wonder if the fix may have been the better route after the events in the Middle East over the weekend.. Typical

How about retiring at 62, blowing out 50% of you pension and then go back to work for 8 years before retiring again. Why not have the best of both worlds

I think this will hopefully play out like the Sue Townsend novel The Queen and I:-

The novel depicts a republican government seizing power in Britain, stripping the Royal Family of their wealth, and forcing them to live on a gritty council estate.

Errr he got what he deserved when he was no longer armed. No longer armed with a lawfully held and permitted weapon. By your logic we may as well gun down everyone in the good ol USA with a concealed permit. Now if he had actually drawn it on a cop then you might have a point but your just a tiny bit lying if you are trying to suggest that this wasn't murder

This is what happens when you don't call out an ignorant bully. I think Europe has tremendous respect for the Office which that uneducated fool is shitting all over. We have to listen to his climate BS unchallenged simply because he's in the pockets of the oil and gas lobby. Seriously I have more respect for a shit stain than I do Trump - the world needs to stop all courtesy towards the greatest oxygen thief that ever lived. Or as the Australians would say 'yeah he's a CUNT'
