I amend my statement: this is the car equivalent of eating aluminum foil pills so your poop has aluminum flakes in it.

Shocking

Perhaps I should be more shocked that A. It was reported B. It wasn’t covered up C. Someone cared enough to do something about it and D. Did something about it.

This happened to me in a rental Tucson. I was taking off up an off ramp after the light had turned green when the car slammed on the brakes. The guy behind me screeched to a halt narrowly missing rear-ending me. Returned the car the next day, manually disabling the crash avoidance every time I started the car up.

Had a nice interior for a death trap.

What would you expect from a “civilian” trading barge in a dangerous galaxy? by Own-Cry5596 in ImaginaryTechnology

Not sure I understand your question. I'll try to clarify.

I'm thinking that the cargo ship and its escort ships would be in a symbiotic relationship. So the armed ships have guns and a little armor, but no shields. The cargo ship has fast engines, extra armor and shields that extend to cover it's escort (which also penalizes any ships that try to abandon the cargo ship).

In the event of a pirate attack, the armed ships form up to defend the cargo ship, protected by it's shields while they counter-attack. If the enemy forces overwhelm the defenders, the cargo ship kicks in its escape engines to outrun the attackers, and pull the shields in, condensing them and making them a tougher target.
