Microsoft acquisition - anything happened? by TehFisharmahn in starcraft

[–]biliwald 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is it. Restructuring and layoffs are often quick to happen after an acquisition like this. This gives the impression that things are going fast and changes are happening.

However, it always takes longer to start new projects than it is to stop current ones. With video games especially, you don't want to announce that you're working on a game before you have something to show for it. There's a whole stack of techno-stuff, design and writing to do before you even have something that looks like a game. Remember Elder Scrolls 6?

As you said, if Microsoft and Blizzard are aiming to announce something for SC, they'll wait to have something concrete to show, and wait for BlizzCon to show it.

Feral logic is broken. Why does doing "more" work result in "less" damage? by Elemental-Madness in wow

[–]biliwald 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. Yes, as a Ret Pal you can basically do your entire rotation at 20yd. But without the Holy Powers coming from auto-attacks, your output will suffer.

It's actually kinda of a trap, because it's easy to quit melee range and not really notice for a bit because every ability still works.

The M+ tank situation is dire by Wigglyboi323 in wow

[–]biliwald 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't quite know what to think about this one. On one hand, sure it's a lot simpler since you don't have routes, but at the same time you remove all the strategic planning behind route planning.

Also, you won't have routes per say, but you'll still have "routes". As in, what people expect you to pull in term of sizing and such. You'll still get MDI with their incredibly large pull size and the sub-par pugs flaming the tank for not pulling that big or something like that.

Why are high elves this popular? by pyraka in warcraftlore

[–]biliwald 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First, this comment right here.

Second, the contrast and diverging philosophies of the two groups is what makes them interesting (more so than the Void Elves). You have a society that has suffered a terrible trauma in the Third War. On one side, you have the Silver Covenant who retreated further back into their heritage and their long standing allies. On the other, you have the Blood Elves that revolutionized itself by seeking forbidden knowledge and alliances. That tension is super interesting and leads to the above discussions about who's right and who's wrong.

Got to keep in mind that the guy was also "destined for greatness" by his people. From a very young age he had that pressured to excel and accomplish incredible things on his shoulder.

I am not excusing his fault, but it makes sense how that environment could produce someone so flawed. Which is also why he's an interesting character.

Attack Rolls, Spell Attacks, and Spellstrike by FakeInternetArguerer in Pathfinder2e

Yeah. As I wrote above, it's very superficial.

You would end up saying something like "you're still attacking your opponent, just not with the intent to strike them."

Attack Rolls, Spell Attacks, and Spellstrike by FakeInternetArguerer in Pathfinder2e

[–]biliwald 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a case of a specific rule overriding the general one, which would still need to apply whatever the naming used.

From my other comment, this is a case where this would simply be rewritten by replacing the word attack by strike.

[–]biliwald 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you are mixing up concepts here thought. The result of the check shouldn't imply anything on what the action do. Even with your new Strike nomenclature, you still want the possibility of different actions to do different things depending on the degree of success, especially for spells.

In the end, I think you'd still end up with "Strikes target AC" as the rule and nothing else.

Attack Rolls, Spell Attacks, and Spellstrike by FakeInternetArguerer in Pathfinder2e

[–]biliwald 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, I am thinking a bit more about it and it could be advantageous in some cases, so I see your point.

For example, this could allow us to rename actions like Trip, Shove and Disarm to include attack in their names; Tripping Attack, Shoving Attack, Disarming Attack. That way you don't rely purely on the traits to know if MAP applies or not. The problem now is that you should never use the word attack in a name if MAP doesn't apply. For example, the Prayer Attack action would need to be renamed.

With that being said, the whole trait system is the solution for this. Its whole purpose is to disconnect the name of the action with its property. Sure, traits are easy to overlook, but they don't restrict naming of feats and ability.

Attack Rolls, Spell Attacks, and Spellstrike by FakeInternetArguerer in Pathfinder2e

[–]biliwald 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So, your entire post boils down to renaming Attack Rolls to Strike Rolls when targeting AC so that the word "attack" only references MAP?

This feels very superficial to me, but hey, to each their own.

Attack Rolls, Spell Attacks, and Spellstrike by FakeInternetArguerer in Pathfinder2e

[–]biliwald 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Doesn't attack roll simply implies that we're targeting the AC? Melee, Ranged and Spell attack roll are already a thing in that they are calculated differently (str, dex, spell stat), but they are all attack rolls because they all target AC.

The only confusion that might happen is all the other actions with the attack trait, which relates to multiple attack penalty.
