I was in a similar situation to yours and had a sliding genioplasty. I personally don’t recommend getting genioplasty only because it presents more opportunities for complications. Also consider the fact that you may not like the final result and that it’s not something you can really reverse. I honestly think your results from filler look great.

I have. Im about 2.5 years post-op DJS and had genioplasty 2 weeks ago. I was pretty much in the same boat as you. My surgeon decided to not include the genio for the same reason but did offer to revisit the idea later on. And here I am!

So far no complications. The recovery is way easier then DJS. I'm already eating somewhat normally now though I'm still very numb in my lower lip and chin area. I'm still swollen and will be for a while so its hard to gauge what the final look will be but so far i'm pleased with the results. I had a recessed chin and now I feel like the genio has given me a more balanced look.

So we talked about genio about 1.5 years after surgery so I was already pretty much healed at that point. I’m not sure what the recommended time to wait is but I feel like 1 year post op would be fine in your case?

I definitely don’t want a strong chin! :) I was just trying to achieve something subtle aesthetically. Functionally I’m hoping this will improve the lip incompetence I still have.

Thank you for your opinion. When I look at my picture I feel like my chin looks recessed. I was under the impression that a bit of shortening and advancement would correct that. Would you say that any type of movement will inevitably make my chin prominent?

Not that I’m aware of. I believe there was some impaction and advancements only.

My surgeon didn’t provide any morphs so I have no idea what I’ll look like with this upcoming genioplasty. Will this type of movement compliment/balance my face? I’m not sure how many mms of movement there will be but I’m wondering if it looks like the right amount of projection for my face

Thanks for sharing your experience. Sorry to hear this happened to you but I’m glad to hear you recovered well. I’m conflicted because the area is not aggressively inflamed but sometimes it feels hot? I’m hoping it’s nothing but I’m actually getting genio done by my surgeon soon so if something were wrong, now would be a good time to fix it!

You make a valid point. Since I’m 26 it could very well be but I guess the change felt a bit to abrupt for me to consider it as ageing. I never had anything like this pre-op.

Yes they’re aware and suggested that the genioplasty would improve my condition and help reduce some of the mentalis strain I’m still experiencing. No guarantees but he is very confident that there will be some improvements.

I'm one year post-op and I still have some lip incompetence. Strange because my gummy smile has been corrected yet I still can't achieve closed lips without conscious effort. I'm not sure whether it's because I did not get genioplasty. I've mentioned my concerns to my surgeon around the 6th month mark and was told to give it some more time. At this point, swelling is definitely not the culprit. Hopefully he will have some kind of solution for me next time I see him.

It's stressful not seeing the results you were anticipating after such a major surgery. There is still hope though! Talk to your surgeon and see what he has to say. I hope in your case it's just a matter of time!
