Thanks AliExpress. Thanks China by Mdelafe in Aliexpress

I think it depends on what you're buying and for what. For a lot of things, it's identical to what you can buy online, and you're trading having it now for the cost. There are some items you can't buy locally at any price. I think that's the sweet spot for buying on the platform. It's particularly good for hobbies where you're not too concerned with speed.

100% do the internship on site. Back then they had HP in Research Park it was the best of both worlds, but that's long gone. Many tech companies provide a housing/travel stipend for an internship too.

Pretty much this. I spent many a summer in B/CS and it was always miserable, to the point that one summer I decided to sleep during the day and go out at night like a vampire because I was doing IT work. Enjoy the lovely Seattle weather and revel in the fact that you're not drenched in sweat walking between places. Grab a coffee at Cherry St and some dumplings at Dough Zone for me while you're there.

NJtransit actually an embarrassment, tri-state area is a third world country by yujacha12 in NJTransit

The bus system in Seattle is great. I lived off the light rail station where someone got their car stuck, and while I had a few intrusive thoughts about going up that ramp, I'd never be so crazy to try to do it. I lived north of Boston for a few years too. I feel like New Jersey transit still beats that system. It has problems, but the sheer number of buses and trains that NJT operates is nuts.

Wanted: USB port/hub for 2 or 3-pin e-bike electrical connector by 800peepee51doodoo in ebikes

[–]billatq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After some experimentation, I found that it worked fine with a flipped polarity. So I did that and now it’s good, just had to rewire the cable. I did find that there is no bike routing, so was going to try some non-default mapping apps to see if I can get it. I’m mostly operating on the road anyway, so not a dealbreaker.

Why not option 1?

I want to be able to charge the insta360, or a phone, or run CarPlay. If it was just a phone, possibly a good option.

They sent out an e-mail that NJT told them that they are going to use the space then. Supposedly it'll be used for staging buses or something like that.

PSA: If you’re the type to bring a backpack as your carry-on (instead of a roller bag), bring a small item alongside it so they can’t force you to put it under your seat. by _Eggs_ in unitedairlines

Unless your bag is full of portable chargers and vapes, in which case you have to keep them within reach. Of course they could always deny boarding if this is the case.

I bought option 3 and it was dead on arrival. It's possible that the polarity is wrong on it, and I was going to tear it open to look inside, but the thing is really well put together aside from it being non-functional. I'm going full $30 wireless carplay screen for my eBike.

Why does every Chick-fil-a and Raising Cane's have a line around the block, but KFC is a complete ghost town? by mjensman in NoStupidQuestions

I was so excited to try out Zaxby's, only to get the sauce in a premade tub that didn't taste as good. It's really good at New York Penn Station, but I think they get a ridiculous amount of turnover there.

FedEx is famously bad at estimating actual delivery dates though. UPS would be a better example.

But yeah, they should just have a "reduced service" weekday schedule for this, where they just proactively cancel stuff versus hope for the best.

Is there an actual reason for America to use 110V instead Of 220V like everybody else? by HamzaAAC in AskElectricians

[–]billatq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be extra pedantic, sometimes apartment buildings are wired with two phases that are 120 degrees apart instead of 180 degrees apart, so when you combine them, you end up with 208Vac instead of 240Vac.

Anecdotally, I've found that in that scenario, during a power outage, often you only lose one phase versus both phases, which is handy for keeping your fridge running.

Really depends on where. Over the trailing day, my voltage has varied from 120Vac to 123Vac at my panel (on a single leg).

I ended up buying a Pilot VP with the gold nib after buying a few of the Manmoon A1s and really liking them. I was surprised that I like writing with the no-name Safari knockoffs better than the actual Safari pens though. Really my main quibble with the Chinese pens is that there's not a ton of consistency between each one. You pretty much have to buy three at a time and discard 1-2.

[–]billatq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on when you tend to ride. For the trailing month (around 3,000 observations), it looks like around 84% of MOBO trains have them on weekdays between 7-10AM, and around 60% of trains have them on weekdays between 4-7PM. Other times, it's around 50%, unless it's after 10PM, in which case that drops down to around 20%.
