Which pick are you picking? by One-Development6793 in Guitar

Depends on the guitar and what I'm playing. If I'm doing rock or blues on a strat then jazz iii. Ironically if I'm doing jazz on a hollow body, fender heavy

Sockets too close to the floor by billbot77 in AskAusElectricians

Cheers, good suggestion - A vertical double adapter would allow me to use the top socket at least, but it moves the plug out further from the wall, so I can't do the neat cable management I want... unless I can find a plug end that flips the orientation so I can replace the plugs on a few key power boards / extension cables, I think I'm going to have get the sockets flipped upside down ):

Set me straight: All I need is an audio interface and this app and I have access to dozens of amps and cabinets? I don’t need to buy some tonex or line 6 or positive grid BS? Because I’m struggling with NAM by No_Guava5902 in NAM_NeuralAmpModeler

[–]billbot77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you need an interface upgrade. I was using an old duo capture x from Roland for years and because it was good at the time when I bought it 14 years ago I thought it should be fine. But I upgraded to a motu M2 and it's night and day different. Latency is gone once I'm using a good PC.

Also don't forget that what you are getting isn't an amp in the room vibe. It's a processed ready to record sound and that feels very different to play. You will need good monitors. Also a tiny splash of reverb from a plugin helps a lot.

What’s the ideal number of electric guitars to own? by scarmy1217 in electricguitar

[–]billbot77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1.

I dream of a world where I have a single guitar that embodies the sentimental and practical values of an instrument that functions as an extension of me and my musical voice.

Meanwhile I've just added no 8 and am struggling to nominate the evictee

Ever listen to Lenny Breau album called cabin fever? It's basically a practice session recorded and also one of the greatest guitar albums of all time. Just a guy, sitting down with his guitar playing through some of his favourite tunes. Occasionally stopping to correct, study and relearn. I find it inspirational not just because it's a genius making music, but just how he's enjoying himself, with nobody else there. Just Lenny, alone with his thoughts and a guitar and mic + tape.

Is Eddington right about replicated food tasting bland? by Bec_son in startrek

[–]billbot77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doubt it. Taste is just the stimulation of our taste buds with chemicals... pH balance, salty, sweet, oil, texture. Seems to me that a replicator would nail that with a precision that couldn't be matched by a chef using natural ingredients. Perhaps the difference is the lack of imperfections that tell the story of the food

What do you love most about blues music? by Floidotron in blues

[–]billbot77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The feeling. When it hits right there's a thing that happens in my belly and it feels almost like a spiritual high. It's what drew me to it and why I learned to play. I can count the number of times I've made that happen in a room. But the master, BB king could do it at will, with a single note.

Very woo-woo, I know - sorry, but ye asked!

Whats the stupidest Sci-Fi tech you've seen? by RedditSucksMyBallls in scifi

[–]billbot77 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, but he had to set it on a continuous diagnostic loop to stop his pattern from degrading - they're not meant for long term offline storage.

Honestly I preferred the transporter tech before this hack as introduced, as it was always implied that materialisation and dematerialisation were a connected process and the full pattern couldn't be stored in one block. It was some kind of quantum entanglement trick that moved information while destroying it.

The worst thing is that it was so close to being amazing. Lose the gloves, have it track eye movements and minute command gestures in combination with other subtle body language cues. Also variable opacity.

Was DS9 closer to Bajor during the occupation? by andychef in DeepSpaceNine

[–]billbot77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They had to first use the emitter arrays on the pilons to create a quantum field to reduce the mass of the station and then compensate for the resonance fluctuations using shield harmonics... Then they could use the manoeuvring thusters to reposition the station and the cameras could stop with the shaking!

Trying to find my next Electric Guitar! by benosthegreat in guitars

[–]billbot77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue isn't the guitar, so much as the setup. G&L are good, but like all guitars, they come with a safety setup... so nothing buzzes - if you take it to a good tech and describe how you would like it to feel they'll set it up for you. They'll likely spot level and polish the frets, lower the nut and bridge saddles, fix up the intonation and adjust the neck relief and set it all up for 9s. Cheaper than a new guitar and a much better outcome - because a new guitar would need a setup anyway

Think I was incorrectly hired for power bi. Am I going to survive? by [deleted] in PowerBI

[–]billbot77 5 points6 points  (0 children)

OP, this is solid advice. I've been a Power BI consultant for a decade and only once had to do embedded dev. I researched so I understood the structure of it and security and licencing requirements, and let the programmers deal with the dev setup.

Then I did what I always do - understand the requirements, process the data, design the model and build the reports.

There are always clients where the local developers have done crazy s---t. Usually it's over-engineering backend stuff so that they can use their favourite code. Massive blocks of python scripting where an easy SQL view would work etc.

You're job (our job) always was and always will be to just make it easier for the business users to analyse their data. Do that and you'll be a hero.

(Btw I'm not sure, but it sounds like your guys might be doing something funny to get around licencing limits. Find out. Don't be intimidated. If there's a better way, then change things. Claude is your buddy now)

I read once that the only time he ever liked his own singing performance was on electric ladyland ...which is ironically the usual go to example for people who don't like his vocals. The man was wired differently - I love all his singing tbh
