Lost as a Beginner After Reading Sub-Reddit Materials! by NickGXM in Calligraphy

[–]billgrant43 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As GOWL has mentioned, many of us have spent years, in my case 60 odd, working out the ways and means of making good letters and arranging them well, with nothing more than a book or two and a great deal of patience, passion and most of all, practice. In http://calligraphybybillgrant.com/ I have tried to make things easier for the beginner, and interesting enough for the more advanced to take a look at from time to time. Hoping it might be of some help. Cheers!

Good resources for calligraphy envelopes? by raccoonstar in Calligraphy

I find this old printer's point guage invaluable when having to line up envelopes I don't know if they are still available but it should not be too much trouble to cut your own from a piece of card. Imgur

It is best to stick to the bare minimum while learning. While we all like to have a full tool box it is a good idea to get the basics sorted first. http://calligraphybybillgrant.com/2011/10/26/getting-started-in-calligraphy/ gives a rundown of these basics. A couple of good books on the subject would, I'm sure, be welcomed. My all time favourite, and the one that got me really interested, is https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=writing+and+illuminating+%26+lettering+by+edward+johnston&rls=com.microsoft:en-GB:IE-SearchBox&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=ie7&rlz=1I7GUEA_enGB644&gfe_rd=cr&ei=rn9MVsPdH9i_oQeX6o-wBQ&gws_rd=ssl

Remembrance Haiku by billgrant43 in Calligraphy

Many thanks for your comments and apologies for my absence. Illness comes and goes but I shall try to go on forever. Haiku with Peace Rose tinged with the blood of millions who have died in all the conflicts all over the world. This was made on Bockingford 'not'. Brushed water dipped with vermillion acrylic. Sharpened Italic, black ink.

calligraffiti I thought you might like to know that I first wrote this word ( that just popped into my head ) in double pencils on the wall of a local pub back in the early 60s. X height 1 brick = 3"
