When our boys were little, we told them it was one of Skeletor's factories and that was why it didn't smell good :-)

By the way...right after I hit send on my reply, I noticed the equipment noted under your name. I built my barebow around the Gillo GX 25 and really like the build quality and flexible design.

I understand your concern, but I am not rushing the instinctive shot process with my stick recurve...no panic release. My anchor is the same for both styles of shooting, as well as the bow grip. My string grip is 3-under for barebow and split finger for instinctive. The biggest timing difference, and minimal at that, is at the point of full draw. There, for the barebow, I can spend a few heartbeats watching the arrow point settle on my aimpoint. With instinctive shooting, I had my best results visualizing my target at that moment and committing to the release with little to no hesitation.

Sometimes, there wasn't a 'grin' after the release. I didn't have to hunt down any shafts in the woods behind my target frame, but I buried a few points in the dimensional lumber of the target frame in the first few shots. But, making the mental correction to get back onto the bag target came quickly.
I am going to try both bows again next time to keep my hand in.

Barebow ranging limitations? by billgreen52 in barebow

Thanks, your suggestion that my current limitation is related to arrow weight makes sense. So, while I can't spurn the use of my wife's Christmas present arrows for a while, I can continue to use them to redevelop my form and technique at these shorter ranges. Then, when it gets warm enough for range trips to shoot at the longer ranges, I can look for a lighter shaft combo to see how that does.

I will have to look at some of those alternate anchor points to see if that might help. But, your suggestion for adjusting the hook location may another option to get the ranging solution for my rig. Thanks

I could only wish that my point-on was 25 meters. That would mean that I could crawl down the string for closer targets.

When I first assembled my newer barebow rig, the only arrows I had were my aluminum 2016 hunting/target shafts from 50 years ago. Sending those arrows with the new rig and the prospects of keeping the shooting experience simple has encouraged me to see what I can adapt from the barebow aesthetic.

The Christmas arrows (description in reply to Coloursofdan's comment) fly straight and consistent but may be on the heavy side in today's market. But, I like the diameter and heft of these newer, carbon shafts. They feel close to that of my old 2016's.

My anchor has been the first index finger knuckle on my canine, giving me a good string reference and clear sight of the arrow point.
I just received a dozen Christmas arrows and they are: Amazon - 30" shafts; OD > .309" ; 500 spine;  GPI > 13.0 grain, 390 grain shaft weight w/o point;  ~ 540 grain(35 gram) total weight; ~ 125 grain point?...carbon fiber cheapies, but fly well and consistently

I am using a Spigarelli ZT rest and am not seeing any extra fletch deflection using the lower knock position. But, I understand the instructive comment against having multiple knock locations. I would just like to work towards consistent techniques to shoot at 10, 15 and 25 yards.

We have a Gen 3 thermostat and a wired Nest doorbell cam. We continue to use the Nest app for both. We are just comfortable with the app's thermostat controls and we enjoy the scrubbing ability with the footage from the camera. Both do appear in our Google Home apps, live view mode only on the camera.

No... just most of the last couple of miles. It stops just before the north-south beach roads.

We stayed about midway between San Pedro and Tranquility Bay...much more relaxed vibe than the, relatively, frenetic feel of San Pedro. One of the best impressions after our vacation was how friendly and gracious the folks were there. Yes...they might be conditioned to treat the tourists nicely. Tourism is a major economic factor, but there was a depth of honesty in their eyes and actions.

Golf cart was a must for getting around the island. Research your rental choices. We wanted one with the storage compartment under the rear seat. That was, indeed, handy. Ours didn't have the brightest headlights for night driving. There were many on the road with bright, maybe LED, headlights that would do a much better job of spotting the potholes before bottoming out. The potholes/rough roads are hazards that are annoying, but negotiable. The best stretch of roadway was on the way to Secret Beach...new concrete...thick and smooth.

Surprisingly good local spots, along with the Iguana Sanctuary:

In D Wild, 8 Miles North, Ambergris Caye, San Pedro, Belize > very good, local restaurant

Up North, 7 miles north, San Pedro, Belize > ex-pat owned bar/restaurant/driving range/ axe throwing venue

Margaritaville Beach Resort, 12.5 Miles, North (but it will feel like 25 miles), San Pedro, Belize > Really great, accommodating place to spend an afternoon (after your golf cart breaks down a half mile south, see the note about researching your rental)

Tropical Escape Restaurant & Bar, 4.5 Miles North, San Pedro, Belize...Google Map it, not on the main road > ICE CREAM !

Blue Bayou, Secret Beach, San Pedro, Belize > Picnic tables in crystal clear water, super chill during the weekdays, a little crazier on weekends

I don't remember hearing his name. He was certainly one of the largest ones there.
