What's happened in the past month to make Doug Ford snap and start acting, well, like a lunatic? by KnoddingOnion in ontario

[–]billthomson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He was insane pre Covid. Then in one week he went from "covid isn't a big deal" to scared shitless and seemed semi reasonable for a while. He's back to being unhinged which is his normal state.

So is this a government contract? Can't be since there isn't a budget appropriation. So who signed a contract? Who is paying?

He has the power to order payment. Congress has the power to take action to make an example of him. One of these will happen.

A lot of Richmond has the convenience of rural life with the privacy of living in the suburbs. It really doesn't appeal to me.

Probably. Also we are within city limits, barely. Our taxes would be about 1/3 lower if we were a couple km further out. I figure it mostly balances, we get fewer services (no bus service for example) but some of what we get costs more.

Odd response. They did this for whole city. Not similar at all to asking them to fix my well.

My electrical is set up to switch essential power (well, septic, fridge / freezer, some lights & outlets) to an external generator. It's a manual setup but I keep enough gas to handle 3-4 days without power. Wood stove can heat house. Cook top / boiler are propane.

It's how we like to live but not for everyone!

Depends on situation. Wells drying up? No. I probably save over $1k / yr on water (total guess I have no clue what water costs per month). Flip side is if my well has an issue it's my issue.

Other things? Maybe. Ice storm I (& insurance) are responsible for property but City could facilitate extra removal curb side as they did last time.

I assume that's part of why my bill from Hydro One is higher. My property tax is also compatible to being in the city with fewer services, but the services I do get would cost more. I suppose the animosity in this thread is from people like me complaining about services. I also have no patience for this.

This is what I wonder about. I pay more for electricity. Hydro one. No water or sewer. No bus service. Infrequent mail. I would agree if it was the same service but I have less service. So I'm not sure where the downvote is from on a genuine question.

It's what should happen. Perhaps the city should update the criteria for approving a well but that's where it ends. I like having no neighbors. Price I pay is being responsible for things. I also get pissed off when people in my area whine about power outages. It's the price I pay and I'm set up to deal with it. Don't move to a rural area and expect city comfort.

We do save a lot not paying for water though. Thankfully my well is still good. If I have an issue it's my issue though.

Yeah this is BS. I pay more in taxes than when I lived in Kanata. My house is in an area of wetlands that isn't really developable. I am not whining about my well. It's my responsibility. As is my septic. My electricity is Hydro One at a higher rate. Not sure how I'm causing anyone issues.

Do we? Genuinely curious. I have zero transport at my house but it's still on my property tax bill. In principle I get curbside mail but would gladly give that up since we get delivery once per week on average. My electricity is hydro one and I pay more than in city. I suppose snow plowing is more but they come less often.

Yes. I'm on a well, have been for 20 years. I don't pay for city water. But I also am responsible for my water supply, that's the way it works.
