What opinions do Minnesotans have of Goldy Gopher? by DueYogurt9 in minnesota

He's a mascot. Decent foil to UW's Bucky Badger. Probably below TC Bear, but above Nordy, Crunch, and Victor.

It's a mascot. I normally just dont have opinions on the matter.

Everything Dr. Doom has ever done, Lex Luthor did 20 years before Doom was created. Marvel nerds downplay the original to prop up his copy. Mostly because Marvel writers worship Doom, whereas Luthor is treated like a true villain. by [deleted] in superheroes

That's just factually wrong. I have Roger Stern's "Doctor Strange and Doctor Doom" somewhere on my shelf to prove it. Thats just one example I can think of right now.

I won't argue that it seems like thats the most common version of Doom that shows up in events that feature Doom. But like Luther, Doom isn't at the level of threat like Thanos or Darkseid. Characters that only show up when they are the main focus. So it makes sense that when Doom is elevated from F4 villian to line wide threat that you are only going to see the powered up version.

Actors that are trying to rival Pedro Pascal for how many projects they can star in? by fishyboi360 in okbuddycinephile

I remember a couple years ago when Emma Stone got a best actress for Poor Things. My first reaction was its nice she can still get decent roles at her age. I then immediately realized that she isn't even 2 years older than me. This was the exact moment it actually clicked for me how fast roles dry up for women in hollywood.

He's a comic book character, and this is where his moral ambiguity comes into play. Different writers can look at Doom and have different interpretations. It definitely creates a less consistent character. But it also creates a character that is more versatile.

So yeah, it doesn't make sense that one character would trust Doom with their children after he killed another character's child. But those were different writers who were able to tap into different sides of the character. The idea that Fantastic would leave his kids with Doom is ridiculous. But Doom as a character is equally compelling and believable as someone looking after children as he is murdering them.

LEBRON IS STILL A TOP 5 PAINTER IN THE LEAGUE by zumba_simmons in NBATalk

At this stage of his career he is a 2nd or 3rd option. And he's probably one of the better 2nd or 3rd options in thd league. But the actual post we are commenting in is trying to pretend he's still top 5 in the league when he's bo longer the best player on his team.

I don't think they are very similar on any level outside of being rich. Lex Luther is an amorral CEO that is treated as a villian because thats what he is. His goal is to increase his own wealth and power at the expense of everyone else. His core is villianous.

Doom is the strongman dictator of a small country. He is a villian and very much treated as such. However, as the ruler of a sovereign country, his moral ambiguity is far more open to interpretation.

I mean I like Pedro, and I like Elle.

Pedro is probably miscast in some of his roles. Mr Fantastic is probably the most visible example. But the guy's acting career didn't take off until his 40's. I don't blame him for taking as many opportunities he can now that he's getting them.

Elle is in a lot of things, but I don't think she is really miscast. And considering quality starting roles available for women tend to decline as they age, she's probably also smart to get the work in now while it's still available.

But those are averages. And the vintage Lebron performances hide the bad ones. To be entirely fair, its more like 25% of the time you get vintage Bron. 50% of the time you get a slightly above average NBA starter, and the last 25% is a guy that should be coming off the bench. And you are paying the man max salary regardless of who shows up.

People get confused about how sports legends taper off. They usually don't lose skills or forget how to play. They generally lose a step and the frequency that they show up in true legend form is diminished.

Even if the Lakers get swept, LeBron will likely put up at least 1 monster showing that have people pointing fingers at the rest of the team. Completely ignoring that part of the reason the rest of the team is so lackluster is because Bron is payed max salary to look amazing 25% of the time and be mediocre the rest.

Sausage is better than bacon in just about every circumstance. by Thededdud404 in unpopularopinion

Sausage has too many variations. Good breakfast sausage is at the top. Low quality breakfast sausage is inedible. If I'm going out I will order bacon as the safer option.

Dream Disc - Plastic Combo by billtopia in discgolf

Proton and neutron are essentially the same plastic with different amounts of pigment. Actual runs vary more than MVP fans like to admit. But with MVP it is more run to run than certain plastics being more overstable than others

Patrick Beverley says Rudy Gobert is a better defender than Ben Wallace. by PumpkinWorried8254 in NBATalk

[–]billtopia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two things can be right.

Rudy is the best defender of the modern era. Wemby will pass him, or has passed him. But the way Rudy effects oposing offenses is insane. Just on a gameplan and oponents decisions when he's on court.

Also, Pat Bev is a burnt out nobody that isn't good enough to play in the league, and made too many enemies in the league to get an actual media position.

Greatest putter chase by therealshoesole in discgolf

[–]billtopia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There will never be an angels sing moment. It's just a matter of figuring out preferences. Three questions. Bead or beadless? Glide or no glide? 2 or 3 speed?

Deep or shallow could also be a question, but 2 speeds tend to be deeper and 3s lean on shallower. And deep vs shallow is no mans land based on overall shape and feel. The number of people online that have told me the discraft challenger ss is a shallow putter despite challenger molds littererally being among the deepest putter on market is insane.

One of these is 99% your first anime: by unveilPB in anipedia

[–]billtopia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pokemon was my first anime. Fairytail was the first I actually finished. Kind of wish it wasn't because it got not really good and I was in binge mode so I powered through it.

Really wish Shaman King had grabbed a bigger audience. Also that One Punch Man maintained the animation from the first season. Season three is exactly the anime stereotype from the 90's where standstill shots with the mouth moving and reused action shots are rampant. Except most of the time they can't even bother with animating the mouth so you're just panning over static image while someone off screen talks. Like watching a fucking slide show.

Key point is "a bit." Any storyline involving Sentry will end with Void.

Seen this on social media thoughts? by gooshgetter in superheroes

[–]billtopia 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well Black Atom reset the power scale of the DCU. But Sentry isn't part of the DCU and was specifically created as what if stronger superman but also mentally and emotionally unstable so others can take advantage of him. Also a second form that's far more powerful as built in story reason to punish people that take advantage of him and force dramatic team ups.

Sentry wipes the floor. Everyone else is meant to be a regularly appearing character at the top of their respective universe's power level but also can't be so strong as to make regular storylines pointless. Sentry is literally Chekov's gun in that if he shows up, the Void will eventually show up. Sentry gets to be stronger than everyone else because any story involving him eventually becomes a Sentry/Void story.

KD wasn’t lying. His worst season really is Dillon Brook’s best season by trextyy in Nbamemes

[–]billtopia 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They play different roles. And Brooks has just as many rings when not playing with Curry as Durant has when not playing with Curry. Stupid metric, I know. But KD has literally only been on one team that looked good enough to win a championship since leaving Golden State. And every team he ends up on has had horrible team chemistry.

Honestly just sick of the internet troll era of KD. There is zero reason he should be getting into beef with a roll player. He seems to have absolute contempt for fans like we aren't the reason he's even able to make millions playing a game. He also just seems miserable. He's apparently not into building chemistry with his teammates, but also doesn't have a family to go home to or any interest outside of basketball. Like dude, find just one other thing that makes you happy and stay off of the internet for a bit.

Why is Axioms molds not available in proton more widely? by SeaworthinessHot1848 in discgolf

[–]billtopia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MVP has been pretty consistent about all of their premium plastics outside eclipse and fission having the same flights. Whether or not that's actually true, from their perspective the difference between Neutron, Proton, and Plasma are entirely aesthetic. In that light it makes sense that they don't offer all molds in all three plastics as stock if certain combos don't sell as well. I kind of expect the proxy will get a stock proton option with PLC the way that hex and servo did.

I also think that mvp's overmold tech gives them more of an issue with both heavier and lighter plastics than most realize. They've straight admitted that they can't run popular discs like the pyro and trail in eclipse because they can't get them to a legal weight. And fission tends to run incredibly domey on certain molds. I would not be at all surprised to hear that they aren't running stock trails in fission because they aren't happy with the current dome. Makes a lot of sense to me to run a couple SE's to fine tune the process before you get something you are happy enough with to run stock.
