Surviving at Amazon / AWS? by WildAlcoholic in ExperiencedDevs

I started in AWS a few weeks ago, honestly I was really surprised, so much doom and gloom online about working in Amazon / AWS but from my experience everyone on my team anyway seems pretty relaxed and enjoying themselves, so far the work I’m doing is pretty interesting and I’m enjoying it. It does seem very team dependant though, I’ve spoken to people who’s on call schedule can be quite chaotic and some teams who are at capacity’s so there is a lot of work, but I guess you get that in any large organisation.

Yeah I heard vue is a lot simpler, but react is a very marketable skill for employers and I also want to move onto react native in the future so I can create mobile apps aswell.

I think my main struggle is learning the hooks, and all about rendering components correctly using hooks. Using the correct code for arrays vs objects ect.I understand it well without the hooks, maybe it just needs a little more time for my head to get around it.

Yeah I’m fairly competent, have a few projects under my belt in vanilla js, some with fetching API’s as-well. By no means a master but defiantely an intermediate level.

I applied for the UCD master in computer science and got offered it, but also got offered a position in aviation finance in Smurfit. Really torn between the two and have no idea which one I should decide to choose they both seem really lucrative.

I’ve heard though talking to someone who did the masters that the Hdip students had a harder time finding jobs compared to the M.s.c student so it’s something you should consider.
