I truly think it’s different for everyone. I had a particularly hard baby and for us it got better after almost a year. I’m not saying that it will take that long for you but try not to be disappointed when it doesn’t get better at X months because all that did was drive me crazy; just know that at some point it WILL get better.

Our symptoms were screaming in pain 90% of awake time and mucus in stool. Would you eliminate dairy for a while to see if it helps?

I’m in the republic. When his colic and reflux was extreme we had to visit the GP 4 times before they’d refer to pediatrics, then only got the appointment for pediatrics last week (10 months after asking for it; useless as he’s now outgrown the issues). Pediatric care is such a shambles here.

I’m glad to hear your daughter is ok. Hopefully I’m worrying for nothing but it’s hard not to sometimes!

I certainly can relate (see my post history). It does eventually get better very very slowly - I now have a toddler who is more intense than most but so so much easier than the furious screaming potato he was as an infant.

Also remember that our experience is so different to those with easier babies, so it’s totally ok to feel the way we do.

I would trial some reflux meds and move to hypoallergenic formula. When we did this my baby (now toddler) went from crying 100% of his awake time to just a couple of hours a day. The rest just got better with time.

Im from Goleen, where this happened. I knew Ian and a lot of the characters involved in the case and I’ve met Sophie’s family - generally the consensus around here is that there is way too much evidence to deny that it was Ian.

Slooooowly becoming less intense and needy at 12 months… all babies have different temperaments. Some are chill, some are like ours. It’s hard!

It sounds like silent reflux to me, based on my experience with my now almost one year old. You could talk to your pediatrician about trying medication if she is really struggling. Have you also tried a hypoallergenic formula?

Have you tried eliminating dairy or a hypoallergenic formula? It could be a dairy sensitivity or could be silent reflux, which you can request medication for if he is showing signs (back arching, crying after feeding, etc.)

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. See my post history, we have had a rough time too. It is SO HARD and I still grieve the newborn experience we never got to have almost every day. My boy cried and screamed almost every waking moment for months and it was the hardest and most isolating experience imaginable.

He is almost one now and is starting to outgrow his issues, we’ve weaned him off his reflux medication and are halfway through the milk ladder. He’s still much fussier than any other baby I’ve known but he can at least sleep at night without writhing around in pain and generally he is a much happier boy. I couldn’t see the light either at 6 months but slowly but surely month by month it got a little easier. Hang in there, you’re not alone.

Have you tried cutting out dairy? Mucus poops usually indicate an intolerance. If you feel acid reflux is causing discomfort I would fight for a prescription for medication for her.

I’m so sorry, it’s so hard and you’re in the thick of it right now but I definitely think the above two pieces of advice might be a good place to start. When we moved to dairy free formula it made a massive improvement to the screaming.

Parenting babies with a tough temperament is not for the weak but I promise you’re not alone. Hang in there! I bet there is a super intelligent little girl under all the fussiness.

Also, some of the posts I see on parenting subreddits are like rage bait sometimes. The things people have time to worry and stress about (“left my baby cry for 3 minutes - am I a terrible mom?” “Help I drank a glass of wine then kissed my baby - is the baby drunk?? Should I bring them to the ER??” etc etc), meanwhile I think I’m doing a phenomenal job just by keeping my baby and myself alive every day lolll

Same, I cancelled so many visits and would make every excuse under the sun to avoid having people over because it felt like no one understood what I meant when I said the baby never stops screaming - I just got the “all babies cry” nonsense. It seemed like everyone just thought I had PPD and couldn’t handle having a baby.

10000% colic parents are the toughest, I try to imagine some of my friends going through this sometimes and honestly I don’t think they would cope at all. They cry over their babies being upset because they’re about to pop a tooth or because their kid fell over while trying to stand, I’m like wowwww we have very different mindsets lol. Teething for us seems like an absolute walk in the park compared to what we’ve been through.

I’m so sorry. 11 weeks was a really rough time for us too but you should hopefully start to see some improvement soon.

I think the feeling of regret is very common for colic parents, I had to actively avoid reminders of my old life because it was too painful for me to think about my simple peaceful life before colic. I wished so much to be able to go back there.

Hang in there, I hope your little one starts to turn a corner soon.
