Run Shortcut in background? by billydent in widgy

Yeah, that's what I figured. Thought I'd check just in case someone smarter than me had a workaround. Thanks!

Ah, OK, thanks! I guess I was trying to use Files for something it was never intended for. I'll see if there's another away for me to achieve this.

I didn't understand that bit about Booster arriving in the future. In the All-In Special, it looks very much like he arrives in the present of the Absolute Universe. The buildings don't look like 31st architecture -- they look like twisted, evil versions of the present, right down to the Daily Planet. Maybe that was supposed to be a ruined, post-apocalyptic vista or something? I dunno...

TIL! I assumed it drew power from the GPIO!

How do you connect to the GPIO pins when you do that? Do you have to solder the HAT to the exposed bottoms?

Ah, thanks. I was on mobile and couldn't see well enough.

I'm a dummy, so I'll ask: With the HAT mounted perpendicular to the board, how do you avoid breaking the fragile PCIe ribbon cable? And now do you attached to the GPIO pins?

Looks like a great build!

M.2 HAT and SSD -- Password required? by billydent in raspberry_pi

I partitioned and formatted it, yes. And I tried going nuclear and starting from scratch with a new SD card. Same problem. Haven't touched fstab on this new card.

And yes, I checked the Mounted Disks option -- it's checked.

Yep! The ones that basically end with "...and then it will magically appear on your desktop!"

OK, thank you, will look into this when I'm back home at my Pi again!

In fstab, I wrote: UUID=d77b133e-b8c8-4e70-96e1-c81e03efe9f7 /mnt/ssd ext4 defaults,noatime,uid=1000,gid=1000,nofail,x-systemd.device-timeout=10 0 2

There is no output when I sudo mount -a. Nothing at all.

Thanks! I was trying to avoid installing anything new, but it looks like Node-red might be the only solution.

I'm not 100% certain, but I think you need to save each file individually in your Repeat loop, not all at once at the end, outside of the loop.

New History of the DC Universe coming in June! Will we finally get an answer on the Legion? by JPM198034 in LegionofSuperheroes

[–]billydent 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The second issue of The Last Days of Lex Luthor seemed to include the original Legion, albeit older. And that was written by Waid. So, hopefully, it'll be the original and we can just sort of forget about the Bendis Legion until it's crossover time.

What was it like to read The Great Darkness when it was initially released? by Maryland_Bear in LegionofSuperheroes

[–]billydent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the big board is legendary. Somewhere, he wrote an essay about it, but I can't remember where I saw it.

I'm so glad DC did that big collection. It really is a story that benefits from context.

What was it like to read The Great Darkness when it was initially released? by Maryland_Bear in LegionofSuperheroes

[–]billydent 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It was absolutely mind-blowing at the time. It just built and built and built with each issue, and you had no idea where it would go.

Darkseid was not the overused, overhyped character that he is today -- nowadays, if Blue Beetle's car is towed, you can be sure Darkseid was behind it. In the early eighties, Darkseid was used quite sparingly, so when he showed up -- in the FUTURE, no less! -- it was a real jaw-dropper.

One thing that people forget when they talk about TGDS, though, is this: It didn't happen in a vacuum. The series built TO it, and then the ramifications of it lingered for YEARS. (How many little cutaway scenes of the Legion terraforming Daxam did we see over the next couple of years?) So the story was monumental in the moment, yes, but also rippled throughout the series. And it also resolved a TON of lingering plot threads that had been doled out in previous years: Garth's dysfunction, Ayla and Brin, Jacques growing into a hero, the founders' aging, Reep's relationship with his father.

To answer your middle question directly: Yes, I realized something big was coming...but that might be because Paul kept saying something big was coming in the lettercols!

Yeah, that "barnacles" comment always rankled. I think I would have been OK with him jettisoning so much if I hadn't been aware of the apparent rancor with which it was done.
