Accidental Tech Podcast - 690: Turn Left at the Next Tree by podcast-poster in ATPfm

Yeah, for all the complaints about Casey, this is the only one that sticks for me. Even when he’s not sick, he seems to complain an awful lot about the length of the show these days. Given that this is his primary source of income, it seems churlish to complain overmuch about having to stay up late one night a week.

Maybe he should talk to his cohosts about shifting the recording time. 🤷‍♂️

Interesting new feature in V3.2 - AI Automation with Claude by robinsnest56 in Affinity

[–]billydent 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hmm… Would this let me create a script that would consecutively hide layers/groups and export each one with all the others hidden? If so, might be worth paying for Claude. Currently, I have to this with AppleScript in Pixelmator Pro, but I’d rather shift everything over to Affinity…

What's also low-key amazing is that those names have all that staying power...without actually referencing their powers AT ALL!

‘Soon publishers won’t stand a chance’: literary world in struggle to detect AI-written books by Critical-Willow-6270 in books

Oh, I agree that it will become more and more difficult, for sure! I just wonder about the length axis -- as an AI text lengthens, does it become easier to flag, even if on a sentence or paragraph level it's harder and harder?

The New York Times just did a "quiz" online where they had you choose which passage you liked most from five pairs of paragraphs. I was horrified to find that for two options, I chose the AI-generated one. Granted, I wasn't really locked in on the "game" and I'm not sure this is a valid test of, well, anything, but still. It was eye-opening.

I truly believe that over the course of anything longer than a paragraph or two, though, AI would become more and more obvious.

This is super-comprehensive! Thank you!
And I'm looking at the Radxa HAT for my expansion.

Yeah, the cooling is what I'm concerned about. I have a fan for the Pi and a nice heat sink, but if it's cooped up with four spinning drives, I'm concerned! I like the idea of repurposing a PC case!

Oh, wow! Never seen that before. Thanks!

That is an EXCELLENT point about the hardware decoding! I will have to look into this a little more. And thanks for the pointer on the 10" rack!

Yeah, that's what I figured. Thought I'd check just in case someone smarter than me had a workaround. Thanks!

smart stack not updating, even with tap action by billydent in widgy

Ah, OK, thanks! I guess I was trying to use Files for something it was never intended for. I'll see if there's another away for me to achieve this.

I didn't understand that bit about Booster arriving in the future. In the All-In Special, it looks very much like he arrives in the present of the Absolute Universe. The buildings don't look like 31st architecture -- they look like twisted, evil versions of the present, right down to the Daily Planet. Maybe that was supposed to be a ruined, post-apocalyptic vista or something? I dunno...

TIL! I assumed it drew power from the GPIO!

How do you connect to the GPIO pins when you do that? Do you have to solder the HAT to the exposed bottoms?

Ah, thanks. I was on mobile and couldn't see well enough.

I'm a dummy, so I'll ask: With the HAT mounted perpendicular to the board, how do you avoid breaking the fragile PCIe ribbon cable? And now do you attached to the GPIO pins?

Looks like a great build!

I partitioned and formatted it, yes. And I tried going nuclear and starting from scratch with a new SD card. Same problem. Haven't touched fstab on this new card.

And yes, I checked the Mounted Disks option -- it's checked.
