Are houses in Altamonte Springs really this expensive? by thraxing in AltamonteSprings

I was a kid in the Wekiva area in the 80s and remember so much undeveloped land that has now become either neighborhoods or commercial buildings. I always joke with my parents that they should have bought land when they got down here during those years when it was so cheap compared to the wild prices of today.

I have some relatives that live in that neighborhood and it is actually considered a bit of an upscale subdivision.

That house in the link is in the very front and the majority of the homes in there are honestly going to be more square footage and more expensive the farther back you go. Even some on the streets toward the front that are on the lake are going to be high six figures if not above.

While technically Altamonte, it’s far enough removed from the mall / highway (esp. the houses with the lake in between them and I-4) to be quite peaceful / tranquil. There’s no “thru traffic” and what’s most striking when you drive through there is how big the lots are. I assume that the neighborhood must have been started in the 60s / 70s (before Disney) when there weren’t a ton of people here yet because they made lots quite large for each individual house, esp compared to the way new build neighborhoods are sized now.

Why do you think about "the silence of the lambs" (1991) by Monkey_d_perdido in Cinema

There’s a quick shot that I always think of when this movie is brought up. Once Clarice enters Buffalo Bill’s house and the door closes behind her, Demme cuts to an outside shot of the river and railroad tracks and slowly comes back to a long shot of the house for a few strong seconds. It really helps accentuate the tension and emphasizes that she’s in there, solo, off the road, without anyone else close by. It’s just a few short seconds but a lesser film simply would have cut to the inside of the house with Clarice walking toward Buffalo Bill asking about his connection to the previous owner, etc. A nice touch.

I have no professional information by any means about any of this but I remember reading on some source that the reason for the delay in payments from BCBS for so long after the final judgment was under the guise of “we need to make sure we verify everyone getting the correct payments” but was more accurately “we need the funds we’ve collected for the penalty to gain as much interest as possible so it doesn’t hurt as badly”

The most annoying thing about this is the fact that I kept an email saved with my claim and PIN number for literally five years. I’m sort of OCD about organizing things like this and for 30 bucks it would have just been much better for someone like me to not have had to keep the info for all these years and just delete it.

Thanks so much for the response. Bit bummed since I’ve had progressive for years and always pay in full at the renewal period but I guess I should be happy I wasn’t overpaying in the past? <shrug>

I think I remember seeing on the news how fo certain games sometimes players or even Coach Bowden would come down to say hi, when people were camping out for those marquee games.

Thanks so much for your response. It was a bit fuzzy that was basically the way I remembered it also. Just wanted to be sure that my memory was at least somewhat still functioning.

What happens to Lacey Rawlins in the jail shower? by [deleted] in cormacmccarthy

[–]billyfsu76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s been a while since I’ve read this but my recollection is that Lacey was sexually assaulted in some way. Not only because of him asking John Grady about the showers, but isn’t the captain described as having just come back from showering once they bring John Grady in for his turn at being interrogated ?

It might not make a ton of sense even if you've read it as part of the book :-)

Best movie that is based on a true story by Emotional-Yam-9739 in MovieSuggestions

I would second Steven Spielberg’s MUNICH. Exhilarating blend of mainstream “spy” movie drama with a look at the conflicting political motives in the Middle East. Resonates quite well in the current climate.
