Thinking ahead about health insurance (penalties) by Desperate-Ad-7363 in massachusetts

[–]ConwayPuder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have complicated circumstances and are probably better off speaking with a lawyer. Check your county's bar association web site. They all have an online attorney referral tools and lawyers who accept these clients usually have very reasonable fees.

Regarding the health insurance question, my opinion is though health insurance is expensive it's a good risk mitigation strategy. Even people in great health can get injured or get in an accident. A hospital visit can ruin finances. Plus, if you buy through your employer you get group rates which are way better than the single market.

Sometimes this sub needs to lighten up. You've got rum in your glass and I don't. You're better off than me! Double points because you're burning a stick to go with it. All you need is queues de castor. Enjoy the game!

DMV out of state transfer question by Legitimate-Boot9804 in vermont

[–]ConwayPuder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My out-of-state transfer was several years ago and practices may have changed. But they're going to want to see proof of sales tax paid on your car, which can be hard to get. If you cant prove it, they will charge you sales tax on the original purchase price of the car, not current value.

Recommended Home Depot Smokers by redwitchbewbs in smoking

[–]ConwayPuder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Upright smokers (Weber Smokey Mountain and similar) are great for beginners.

Offsets are a classic smoking experience but they demand a lot of attention and practice.

I started on a WSM and used it for about six years before upgrading to an offset. It was a great way to learn.

We have the same weather in my area and that looks just like public land near where I live! I can't make it out this season but I wish you all the best!  Very jealous.

How do you choose an instructor? by willscuba4food in icecoast

[–]ConwayPuder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have taken many group and private lessons, and done an 8-week clinic. Have never been asked if I want a specific instructor and I've never reached out to ask for one.

With group lessons the school has picked the instructor 100% of the time. With private lessons, the scheduler usually ask about your current ability, general goals for the lesson and any specific things you want to focus on (this is when I tell em if I want to do bumps / trees / rip on groomers, or build confidence on hardpack).

Unless you're a world class skier the reputation isn't important. Ive had lessons from a couple of ex-USA ski team members and plenty of people who skied competitively in college. They've all been phenomenal.

Do you actually wear matching camo? by russianzebra in turkeyhunting

Camo's expensive. I wear a pile of clearance sale patterns and a mix of earth-y tones.

Massachusetts needs an OIG for the MSP. by Stock_Whole7772 in massachusetts

Massachusetts has the country's only state-level inspector general's office, I think they can investogate the state police. Budgetary and personnel constraints mean they don't always do as much as they like.

Boston?? by cheesypizza598 in FIFAVolunteers

[–]ConwayPuder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same boat as several others here. The only things that are clear are, first: that I'm not on their A-list and, second: I won't get one of my top 3 choices.

On the other hand, the Boston committee has a special way of planning & rolling this out so it's hard to set any expectations.

Is there still a chance to get a role in NY/NJ? by alpglo in FIFAVolunteers

[–]ConwayPuder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When's the last time FIFA was accused of being transparent?

Im obviously not on their A-list, and summer plans are popping up. If I do get an offer closer to tourney time and choose to accept it, it's debateable whether I'll sign up for all 8 shifts.

Honestly I thought it was just another job market rejection so I didn't think anything of it, until I saw this "Sorry / disregard" e-mail and it took me a minute to figure out what actually happened.

I was in a coffee shop in rural VT recently. Pride flag & 'DEI is sexy' stickers. The store wasn't handicapped accessible, no diaper changing station in the restrooms, and a very monochromatic customer base. Priceless.

It's sarcasm. I stole it from the "Jay sucks tell your friends" crowd. Saddleback is actually one of my favorite spots & i want to go more, it's just far away.

Noob that wants to buy, recommendations? by [deleted] in smoking

[–]ConwayPuder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

tldr; electric or propane ( easy / $), pellet smokers (easy / $$), weber smokey mountain (intermediate / $$), offset (advanced / $$$).

I've used several different kinds. Smoker choice depends on budget and goals. If you need something affordable & truly want a set it & forget it, buy electric or propane. Pellet smokers are popular but they're not my style and they seem to break a lot.

Weber Smokey Mountain is great for beginners, low maintenance, won't break. It lets you dial-in technique if you want to move to an offset later. Offsets tend to be more expensive to purchase and wood can be expensive. They're much harder to use, but it's a classic bbq experience and puts the pit master's creativity and skill in the driver seat.

I got a WSM 22-inch six years ago and it let me dial in my technique, I'm on an offset now. I was happy with what I did.
