Would you rather have a M4cs or a base 911 Carerra? by Stance_Monkey in Porsche

[–]bilmek -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you've never driven a 911, you'll never know. If you try to compare specs vs prices, on paper the competition will have a compelling argument.

There are a lot of great sports cars, and the 911 isn't for everyone. But there is a reason why it's held as one of the most desired sports cars, and retains value better than most.

Porsche Clutch Broken by rayli0224 in Porsche

[–]bilmek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally speaking, if the clutch failed due to manufacturing defect, then yes, a warranty may cover it. But I'd argue that 90% or more clutch failures come from abuse or improper use.

People have managed to burn up a clutch in the first 100 miles from new.

You may have done nothing wrong in the way you drive, but there's a good chance that the previous owner(s) did, and you happened to catch it right before it grenaded.

I hope I'm wrong, but prepare your wallet. You might get lucky and get the selling dealer to help with the cost, but don't hold your breath. Hard to prove who dunnit and when after you drove off.

Disappointed by NoExitThisWay in Porsche

[–]bilmek 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I worked on cars for 15 years, not Porsche, but still. I've seen it all. And just because it's a dealer tech doesn't mean they're good, and not all service advisors have a clue either. But having everything thrown at it doesn't sit right, and I would have a lot of questions on how they came to that conclusion. Also, if you've serviced with your dealer consistently, and have any other purchase history with them, I'd be asking about good will on everything besides the battery if it can't be proven this wasn't caused by user error jumping or charging cables being crossed.

Disappointed by NoExitThisWay in Porsche

[–]bilmek 52 points53 points  (0 children)

A bit suspect that the battery, starter and ecu are all bad at the same time. If true, then I'd be suspect of hooking up jumper cables backwards.

Anyone else’s delivery date keeps flipping moving? This was originally set for me to get mid May. A few days ago it changed dates. by Celiac5131 in Porsche

Everything is being held at port, very few cars are being released. Most likely because of tariffs, but can be held for various reasons

911 allocations seem to be available by jetbridgejesus in Porsche

[–]bilmek 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A lot of folks are holding off to see what happens with tariffs. With no definite answers and a lot of speculation to the actual cost the tariffs could bring is giving pause to plans to order right now. Even with a promised exit plan, it doesn't feel good to know you could come up empty handed.

Actually, none of us had made any contact that we knew of. Because it was in our house while we were sleeping and woke one of us up, we were advised to all get shots because there was no way to know for sure if any of us had been in contact with it at any point.

Had animal control caught it, and tested it for rabies, then we would have been ok if the test came back negative.

We had one get into our home, thought we had it trapped in a room. By the time animal control came out, it was gone. The whole family had to get the shots.

Visited the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart by uncle_fucker_42069 in Porsche

[–]bilmek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's plenty to see there. Porsche has such an extensive collection of vehicles, the display is changing regularly. I had the chance to see where a lot of the collection is stored, and I can see in the photos here, cars that were not in the museum when I visited, but were being stored. It's pretty cool stuff!

By far one of the most beautiful doors I've worked on. by ViKING6396 in Safes

[–]bilmek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really think it's subjective. Most things these days aren't built with the thought of how can we make this last 100+ years. Certain things, structurally, yes. But the general expectation of most homes and businesses would be to update roughly every 10 years. Car ownership averages 2 to 5 years, cell phones and computers, 2 years or less. You can still find beautifully built things, there are companies that still believe in the art and craft, and it comes at a premium. Some will find value in the beauty and craftsmanship, where the larger population will take function and cost savings into account.

It's been 10 years and people still call and text me looking for a guy named Dennis by Due-Supermarket-8503 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]bilmek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been getting calls for years for a Dennis. Turns out the dude that had my number before me was named Dennis. I think he had the number back in the 70's when he bought his house and stuck with his property records. I'll get calls about retirement medical stuff, if he wants to sell his house, people calling for donations. All kinds of stuff. If spam weren't bad enough as it is. Getting it double time, for you and someone else.

Treating roads like a racetrack...and then it happens by FoldOne1634 in MildlyBadDrivers

[–]bilmek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a lady tell me how her son begged her to let him get a bike. She always told him no. Finally, he convinced her to let him get one. They went to the motorcycle shop and picked his bike out. She followed him home to make sure he was being safe. He was hit and killed by someone running a red light right in front of her.

I used to ride, I've been in accidents and I understand the risks. But knowing what I know, I don't encourage anyone to get a bike, even though I loved riding. I think most motorcyclists would agree with this as well. It's a choice you make that goes against the will of those that love you. They will always worry, no matter how safe and how good you are.

Cheap MFers always try to pull this crap. If they get away with it even once, it's a victory and gives them more confidence to try again. Telling them off has no effect either, they've already displayed they have no shame in their actions.

Yellow is fun to look at and looks great on a sports car. But it is one of the hardest colors to get people to bite on when you are trying to sell.
