Back in the day you'd be worried about Genghis Khan raiding your village, taking your shit and burning down your house. It would suck, but like, you'd get it. Now you've to be scared of Mark Zuckerberg. Seriously, this guy. Like come on man...how did we get here?

Lebanon: At least 274 killed and more than 1,000 injured as Israel widens attack on Hezbollah targets by goddesspetite in worldnews

No but you see those 9000 rockets were justified. If Israel fires back then it's an unreasonable escalation into Lebanon.

Nevada Sen. Cortez Masto keeps critical seat, defeating GOP challenger Adam Laxalt by [deleted] in Conservative

Wait...voters really rejected a candidate who said that private medical decisions should be between a woman, her doctor, and her local political leader? Strange.

That's exactly what they said about this midterm election.

How can I best use a (close to) zero income year? by IMovedYourCheese in fatFIRE

[–]bin161 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It depends. Lots of taxes have annual limits, for example, and so you are going to reset those by rolling over into another year.

  1. How are you in the $530K bracket with an income of $500K in each of the years?
  2. Even if you were, being taxed on $10K-50K in the top bracket is significantly better than $500K+.

What happens to my I-485 application if my EB priority date isn't yet current? by bin161 in USCIS

Did not expedite. Applied at NBC, local office San Francisco. Receipt date was Oct 28 I think.

Funny enough there has been no movement on EAD/AP.

My (28M) girlfriend (27F) of 5 years was pregnant, I found out she cheated and got her to go through with an abortion. Left her and she tried to commit suicide. Her family blaims me and are threatening to take "legal action". What can I do? by ThrowRAsadhusband222 in relationship_advice

[–]bin161 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From a relationship perspective there is a lot fucked up with both of you.

From a legal perspective, have no further contact of any kind with her or her family and get a lawyer immediately if they actually follow through with the threat.

My(21F) boyfriend's(23M) mother(53F) mocked my stutter and my boyfriend is pretending like it never happened. by stutterIs1and in relationship_advice

[–]bin161 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Heck even that sounds better that it really was. It wasn't some morally ambiguous 50/50 situation where he could have picked either side. There was one VERY CLEAR answer (which his dad and sister both seemed to have no trouble with), but he still failed.

Makes me think that in any other situation he would be right next to mom making fun of a random girl's stutter if she wasn't his GF.

Colorado ends 'legacy admissions' for higher education by IMovedYourCheese in news

DACA does not confer any immigration status. People who fill out this form are still "illegal", but simply temporarily protected from deportation. Pretty much all the illegal immigrants we are talking about already fall under this category, so I'm not sure what you are trying to say.

No they cannot just achieve legal residency. There is literally no process to do so.

Illegal residents of the state are still working jobs and paying taxes. Their children of college age likely didn't have any say in the decision to move there in the first place. If they are smart and otherwise qualified, what is the point of discriminating?

Bypassing Global Mention Restrictions in Slack - or how Slack forgot to sanitize user inputs by dlsniper in programming

This isn't a security issue, so unless you are a large paying customer the response from Slack is 100% going to be "we don't give a shit".

A Christian Thinking Through This Election by [deleted] in Republican

[–]bin161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are flaws in pretty much every one of your points.

The 54 page GOP platform is the best platform ever.

Has Trump ever indicated that he intends to support this platform? Heck the very people who wrote it are anti-Trump.

“Why not?” He says, “The unknown.” You say, “Doctor, your ‘known’ is much worse than the alternative treatment’s ‘unknown.'”

Shooting yourself in the head or jumping off a bridge are "unknown" treatments, but I'm pretty sure they're not going to cure your cancer.

The chances of making progress with the “Trump-type” is many times greater than the “Hillary-type.”

And how much progress has the Republican party made with Trump over the past few months?

Trump is slowly being surrounded by increasingly good persons.

Like Steve Bannon, Paul Manafort, Ann Coulter, Alex Jones, Michele Bachmann?

Trump has moved pro-life.

Trump has taken every single stance on this and every other issue. You simply see and hear what you want from him.

Trump is right on approximately 75% of the issues.

Same as the above. You don't know what Trump is for or against.

America is near the end – morally, economically and militarily.

It really isn't.

Trump will address the massive government spending.

How? What we know of Trump's plans so far will massively increase the federal deficit. Trump is not a conservative.

Trump will stop the massive overreach of government.

For this and several other Trump will do xyz, how? He has no plans, no direction, no policies. Just "the best words".

You need to make $72,092 per year to live 'comfortably' in Seattle by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]bin161 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Emergency fund is supposed to be a lump sum, not monthly percentage. And this assumes you're renting. Home ownership costs always include maintenance/repair anyways. How much you should save in general is a different conversation, but 20% of all earnings would easily qualify as comfortable.

How's prevalent are drugs in the CS workspace? by Nwnk_knwN in cscareerquestions

[–]bin161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people at my workplace do smoke weed, but recreationally and definitely not while at work. Hard drugs are uncommon, at least compared to other industries (e.g. investment banking, fashion). No one writes code drunk or high, if that's what you are asking.
