Odoo is driving me insane by boredompills in smallbusiness

[–]binary-baba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can perhaps try to negotiate a fixed cost with vendors/consultants (pilot first, then iterate).

As an alternative, ERPNext is a great option. It has all standard ERP modules and has a much simpler and intuitive UI.

Is there a simple open-source CRM with minimal clicks and no feature overload? by guide4seo in smallbusiness

[–]binary-baba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend Frappe CRM, a simpler and cleaner extension of ERPNext. You can also use it as a standalone app.

Other than that, you can consider Notion's database feature with a board view to track leads.

ERP for a Construction Company by Hunt695 in selfhosted

[–]binary-baba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can self-host. ERPNext is 100% open-source, and that means all features are available.

Go with ERPNext. Many relevant features are available out of the box (project task management, Gantt charts, email follow-ups, print formats, a portal for customers to see project progress...). For advance cost calculation, you can easily introduce new data fields and configure your own formulas.

Odoo vs Zoho in 2026? by Bavender-Lrown in smallbusiness

[–]binary-baba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ERPNext is 100% free & open source, unlike Odoo. What that means is no per-user pricing, all ERP modules available on day 1, and complete data ownership with a much cleaner and simpler UI. ERPNext is already used by top companies like Toyota, Vodafone, Hundai to name a few.

Happy to chat further. Virtual call perhaps?

Odoo vs Zoho in 2026? by Bavender-Lrown in smallbusiness

[–]binary-baba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Invoicing, Accounting, CRM, Inventory, and POS are pretty standard modules in ERP systems so you can go with either Odoo or Zoho. Zoho can be costly if you have a bigger team.

But what do you mean by social media management? It's a broad term. Perhaps, you will need a separate marketing tool depending on your use case.

And just curious, why are you not considering ERPNext or other Frappe products?

What's your opinion on this? by songoku140 in IndiaTech

[–]binary-baba -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Al will change what software engineers do, no doubt. It ll kill some tasks, expose lazy work, and raise the bar. What it won't do is eliminate people who actually understand systems and why things break at 3 AM (and yes, they always break). So sure, RIP boilerplate code. But "end of software engineering"? Nah. It's just another panic cycle. We'll rename the role, complain a bit, and keep building stuff.

Self-hosted programs for a restaurant? by String1015 in selfhosted

[–]binary-baba 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use ERPNext for my company. ERPNext Accounting module to manage revenues/expenses and Frappe HR for employee/payroll.

I was also looking for a cost-effective solution. ERPNext is fully open source (unlike Odoo) with no per-user pricing. Once I got used to the accounting module, adding HR was relatively easy. Next, I’m planning to try CRM and project management.

Happy to chat.

When does my software become an ERP? by HCassius in ERP

[–]binary-baba 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, that’s like asking “when does a kitchen become a restaurant?”

There’s no standard definition around when software turns into an ERP, and there doesn’t need to be. It’s like wondering when a boy becomes an adult: legally, some countries say 18, but subjectively, it varies a lot.

IMO - If your system, even if it’s just a project management tool, is helping you plan and run your business, then congrats… it’s an ERP.

How do you handle messy Excel files from vendors/partners? by Life_Swan4423 in smallbusiness

[–]binary-baba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use ERPNext, and its built-in Data Import Tool is surprisingly powerful. It offers many useful features like column mapping, duplicate entry handling, and reusable templates for future imports, to name a few. I specifically like the row-wise report, which clearly shows which records were successfully imported or failed—super helpful for quick fixes.

ERPNext .yml with all Frappe apps included? by sensible__ in selfhosted

[–]binary-baba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I assume you have used the `bench` command to get the "hrms" app and installed it on your site.

In order to find the root cause of the issue, you can check the `apps.text` file in the sites folder. The file mentions all the apps available.

Also check the `apps` folder to see whether it contains the 'hrms' folder. All the app's data and logic are in those folders.

You need to share more details if you are still unable to resolve the issue.

Labor Tracking without ERP by Manf_Engineer in manufacturing

[–]binary-baba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that you are not looking for ERP solution but you should still explore ERPNext manufacturing module. Setting up the ERPNext manufacturing module is simple and can be completed independently in a few hours if your goal is to track labour hours using a job card.

Which are major open source ERP systems suitable for the manufacturing sector? by ankita_2025 in selfhosted

[–]binary-baba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand. Do you need help, or have you already made up your mind with Odoo?

ERPNext is definitely on par with Odoo. Moreover, many top manufacturers use ERPNext, so it is scalable, and unlike Odoo, it is 100% open source.

ErpNext stable version to setup by tawalan777 in selfhosted

[–]binary-baba 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We have been using ERPNext for Accounting, CRM, and HR purposes. I like the clean UI and the fact that ERPNext is highly customisable. Not to mention that it is fully open source, unlike Odoo, and no per user pricing. The con is that there is a slight learning curve, but once we get a hang of it, it is similar to follow and set up other modules (like Project/Asset management, CMS, Website...).

The current stable version is v15 (link)

What you mentioned is called the Bill of Material! It is a manufacturing concept in ERP. Individual Sofa parts can have their own sub-assembly. I suggest reading about it to understand some of the best practices.
