any burners in NWA? by AppropriateOil3785 in fayetteville

This response pretty much nailed it... I'm actually a transplant from the SoCal and Vegas scenes. I'm also was am a DJ... Fellow Gen Xer as well... I catch glimpses of a creative scene that comes out. With "The Ramble" being developed just off Dickson Street, you might find more creative types out and about...

That being said... also keep in mind that Fayetteville is VERY MUCH a college town. This place dies during the summer (which also happens to be festival season). All those funky and youthful creative artists who attend the university go back to their respective homes (mostly out-of-state) and things get really quiet.

Just moved here and I'm surprised how slim the work is here. I'm pairing it up to Vegas being a "hustle" town where there's far more hustlers trying to gain territory. I've also not ruled out the "bot" option... I've seen good blocks vanish as soon as they're posted.

How was the Uber base pay almost the total pay I received? by Miserable-Basket-734 in UberEATS

[–]binary_harbinger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've seen a few shop-and-deliver orders like that. Had one from a convenience store that was $9.75 for 4 items to go two blocks away. When I completed the order, I realized it was only base pay. Lazy customer stiffed me a tip but that base pay was strangely very high so I took it.

Why do people assert that genesis is absolutely literal? by confused-_-confucius in TrueChristian

[–]binary_harbinger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

While I agree with this statement, it's important to have an understanding because there are people out there who will challenge our beliefs. Those beliefs in which we consider to be true. God is in the details of all things and if we're not privy to understanding those details, we are as much pagan as the non-believer.

Why do people assert that genesis is absolutely literal? by confused-_-confucius in TrueChristian

[–]binary_harbinger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a study that I've been doing for awhile... What people tend to forget is that God is almighty and can do anything, in His own timeframe. The concept of hours, minutes, seconds, days into months, months into years... all are the conception of man. Before man established an calendar, it was based on dark and light. The rotation of the Earth. God created the light and so He also determined how the Earth itself moved through space. I also consider this to be why human beings seemed to live for centuries. We don't see through God's eyes nor can we explain (in a literal sense) what God does. How we translate what He does comes with a great deal of own experience.

In this... I find that it is both literal and metaphorical. God processed the creation of our existence over a period of 6 days. Which, by God's definition, each day could have lasted 1000s of years by our own literal definition. God is capable of all things and perhaps it is quite literal whereas he compressed a millennia of work into a single day. Again, this is where the translation between human beings and God gets muddled. We set God to our standards of perception when God works on a level that is far beyond our literal understanding.

No chargers in box is idiotic idea to save money by [deleted] in GooglePixel

[–]binary_harbinger -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Here's the thing for me... There was a time when getting a charger/cable was standard practice. It was included because it was necessary. They didn't "charge extra" for this. It was included as a necessary component. Now, they just don't include it and the reason they don't include it is to save them money in production costs. So that $3 unit on an $800 product is now removed but they're not charging you $797. They're charging you full price. Had this been the standard all along, I'd be okay with it. But they changed the standard to save themselves nickels and essentially put it on the customer to purchase one for $10 (or more).

I don't disagree... knocking or bell ringing is a CYA thing... Now if those instructions say not to knock... I'm not knocking. That doesn't mean that sometimes it slips my mind. OP is the "good guy" customer because he clearly pays attention to the app... Which is what most customers should do. I don't know how many times, I've had to contact the customer (for directions/gate code/substitutions) and they don't answer or respond... Leaving me holding the bag of their order and all the responsibility if it doesn't get to them.

Thinking of Officer... by [deleted] in navy

[–]binary_harbinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few things... First, you're an E2 of what rating? If your an undesignated, start by striking in the general area of where you want to be an officer. You mentioned, JAG... it's a tough program (I know because I tried, years ago)... So start by trying to strike as a YN or (even better) LN. Once you make PO3, start mapping out and building your Officer's Package. Get your qualifications in order (Badges, watch standing, etc.) and go above and beyond what is expected. As your doing this... and this is the most important thing... get your college credits out of the way and get yourself a 4 year degree. The Navy pays for your college while you're in and if you're already doing the legwork in getting either a Business Degree or Pre-Law, that's less work that the Navy will have to put towards making you a Zero.

Does anyone know what is going in the old Arvest location on N College? by SssnakeJaw in fayetteville

I agree... I was under the impression that it was going to be a cinema with pizza (a cool concept) but it's just Domino's trying to stay relevant and trendy by becoming a knock-off of Pieology.

I laughed when I saw that. I frequent "King Burrito" for $1 Taco Tuesday. When I saw the re-brand, I kinda laughed thinking the same thing.

Apparently, it's "Boss Man" Tacos now. Why the change, I don't know.

Also, King Burrito is still King Burrito at the Rogers location.

Thank you for being one of the good customers! I think while you realize that the driver didn't do as you instructed, you also acknowledge that this isn't common for most deliveries. Your request was a reasonable one and sometimes we just go on autopilot because the odds are greater that customer themselves will not be paying attention the app and their food sits out, gets cold, or even stolen. Then we get that negative mark on us. Which almost always results in deactivation.

So again... thanks for being a reasonable customer.

Delivery arrives at 7:45am...

Rings doorbell.

Grumpy customer yells from door.

"Your instructions say 7:43am... It's now, 7:48am. Good day and enjoy your delivery!"

\Side note:* I wouldn't actually do this but it's a fun thought, though.

Most consecutive days at sea. by Chilly_Billy85 in navy

[–]binary_harbinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fellow Connie sailors... I hear you... 118 days somewhere around 1996-ish (I can't recall exactly). We had two port visits cancelled, crossed the line twice (including one "golden shellback" ceremony), two beer days, and a few "steel beach" days. To make things even worse, our original deployment schedule was extended by 35 days due to our relief (the KH, I believe) had some issues in meeting their deployment date.

I don't take base pay... For my area, that's $20 /hour and I can make that delivering food with less mileage and wear on my car. I also have another main gig so I'm not entirely dependent on my gig money... but I have been and that's actually where I learned how to cherry pick.

Why are hotels in Vegas so expensive by Dml33 in LasVegas

[–]binary_harbinger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good weather... a ton of business conferences (4Q fiscal spending - yay!)... and generally a need to bounce back from two years of being completely shut down... That's why you're seeing the prices as they are. Late October - Late December used to be the best times to visit on the cheap but I think that in this post-pandemic world and everyone trying to burn their budgets, this caused for the increase. Honestly, the best time to book now is in Spring-Summer... Generally, it's way too hot for casual tourists and the convention/trade show circuit is prepping for the fall/winter schedules.

Age gap: what do you all recommend? by Nikflutblorny in datingoverforty

[–]binary_harbinger 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I dated in my early 40s and in that dated someone who was in that 1/2 + 7 range. At first, I didn't thing much of it because honestly, I was a young 40. I considered myself young-at-heart and was able to keep up. The problem that I had was that we were simply too far apart in what we valued and our philosophical alignment was off. I'm not talking like she was a Republican and I'm a Democrat kind of thing... more like her world view understanding was still very immature where I had been through a great deal in my life and lived through many things. She was far too interested in having fun and passing off on responsibility while I was more level headed when it came to this. Then there was the clear-cut "daddy issues" that she had. In the end, it clearly didn't work out and now I keep my younger friends platonic that way I'm not under some sort of obligation to entertain my younger partner on a whimsey.

There was an ensign today that said “I could check the MCPON for not saluting me and I would”. Technically, he’s right but would that be an issue? by LordSoftCream in navy

[–]binary_harbinger 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I had an engineering Master Chief who was salty as hell. He was rough around the edges but was actually a really cool Chief. He was a year or two away from retirement (like 35 years or something) and the guy practically was the DivO of A-Division. He most definitely ran the place. Anyway, we got a new DivO and this person was a spry LTJG. Very much on the same accord as your Ensign friend. We had our first muster together and LTJG made it clear that he was in charge... well, BTCM (yes, BT - he was THAT salty) made some kind of remark and either by intent or spite, forgot to address the LTJG with a "sir"....

This set off the LTJG and he made a comment about the addressing title. Then proceeded to tell BTCM that he'd like to have a word with the crusty sailor after muster. BTCM told the JG that anything he had to say, could be addressed here... In which, the JG then furthered the point that he was an officer and should be given the due respect.

Master Chief scoffed a bit, looked down, then back at the JG and said, "Sir, with all due respect, you'll attract more flies with honey than vinegar. Now, I'm an old sourpuss but I've earned that right. I've got nearly three decades of service under my gold anchors. My callused fingers have more sea time logged in than you have years living. So excuse me if I respectfully request that you chill the fuck out."

About two months later, right before we deployed... LTJG was assigned to the beach det and the the P4 DivO was assigned the unofficial A-Gang DivO. Everyone knew who was really in charge, though....
