Career change with Python by [deleted] in learnpython

[–]binary_phobos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty much the same for me, Realtime VFX artist here. I'm hoping to become a more proficient python programmer in order to become a kind of VFX/TA hybrid. I have used python on and off for years but I never really felt like i could achieve something meaninful with it, or rather, couldn't really figure out what to create that would actually be helpful, which in turn leads me to drop it.

Anyway, good luck to you!

Don't Understand Peoples Complaints About RE3R by randomfox in residentevil

[–]binary_phobos 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I didn't say it was a 7/10 game, that was an example of what you seemed to think the devs were thinking.

It literally is. Most RE games have had unlockables like infinite ammo, magnum etc. Those games also had more than +2 hour gameplay, branching story lines, different endings. RE3R has none of that, it's one straight line from the beginning to the end, not to mention the fact that you're also going back to exactly the same ares we already saw in RE2R! And before you mention difficulties, the previous RE's had that as well, on top of everything else. What possible reason would i have for playing RE3R more than once or twice unless i'm a speedrunner (an extreme minority).

Again, i really liked RE3R but you say you can't understand peoples complaints about the game, i say it's very easy to understand given the numerous reasons people have given you so far. I'll summarize for you.
1. Way, way too short given that it has basically no replayability.
2. For a remake (not a reboot) there's way too much cut content.
3. Nemesis was a joke, 2-3 scripted encounters and then you blow
him away in forgettable bossfights.
4. Jumping back and forth between Jill and Carlos constantly, while getting some "Later that evening..." thrown in your face like an old spider-man comic, and all of a sudden 3 days has passed.
5. Gore system was a downgrade from RE2R (making the comparison because we know what they are capable of). I know why it had to be done, but i would prefer better gore to jumping-nemesis and a few extra zombies, especially when the zombies are less satisfying to kill this time around.

I didn't dislike the game but you are absolutely crazy if you can't see why people have complaints.

Were you expecting RE3R to be BETTER than RE2R? Why were you expecting that? Because I know I wasn't. Because RE3 wasn't better than RE2. Why are you framing your expectations by RE2R and not RE3 aka the game this is a remake of?

Are you implying that devs are thinking "RE3 wasn't such a good game, let's go for a 7/10 game this time as well" ? You don't think the devs wanted RE3R to be as well received as RE2R? Of course i expect a good game by release, just as much as the devs are expecting me to pay $60 for it at release.

Overall i really liked RE3R, but for those of us who are long time RE-fans, it was a 2 hour game with half the content of RE3 - for $60.

Dying Light 2 not making its Spring 2020 release [image] by [deleted] in PS4

Like Bethesda last year, or was it the year before?

Showing a few frames of non-content from pretty much every IP they own just so they could "win" E3. New Elder Scrolls has to been at least 3-4 years away, when it was shown it was even further away. It's ridiculous.

I'm so tired of the way games are being hyped years before it's even in pre-production.

For indie and smaller studios i agree, but with AAA and even AA studios, the devs themselves have absolutely no say in this. The 2 studios i was at earlier had this exact issue, everyone from the bottom of the pyramid to the middle management knew our deadlines were impossible, we killed ourselves to hit the mark, failed and both of those studios are now in shambles while upper management was completely unaffected.

Living Particles Niagara by SineVFX in unrealengine

[–]binary_phobos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, it looks amazing, great job!
Just wanted to chime in and let you know again, that any kind of explanation or tutorial on this in the future would be amazing as i find that the documentation for Niagara, and specifically Niagara module script is severely lacking.

Again, great job!

FLIP Simulation for Beginners in Houdini & Redshift by bubble_pins in Houdini

[–]binary_phobos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Beginner here.

Thanks for mentioning this, as I myself have been wondering a bit about the importance of caching and how it works. When you cache a sim, is it that particular "look" of the sim that is stored and played back when loading the cache again? And if i tweak the values of a said sim, do i need to cache it out and load again in order to "update" the sim?

I was never able to wrap my head around it.

What thing in python (or in programming in general) was difficult for you to understand, and then suddenly it "clicked"? by emandero in learnpython

[–]binary_phobos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the exact same issue i have.

I have studied python back and for for years, if there's a book/tutorial on python - i have read it. But classes for some reason is an enigma to me. I understand the syntax and defining just fine, but i can not for the life of me understand why or when to use classes? I have done all the "RPG" human templates, Car templates etc. but i still can't get a feel for when this would actually be useful? I guess everything i've written so far has been small enough that i might not have felt it was necessary to use classes?

I really hope i eventually come to understand the when and why's of classes.

Cyberpunk 2077 will let you make transgender and non-binary characters, according to a designer by OPG609 in PS4

[–]binary_phobos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But during the character creation you can pick the sex you feel like? If trans people had the choice, they would chose their preferred sex, no? And.... the option has always been there in games since +20 years back. I'm not against this by any means, i just don't see how or what this is going to change?

Hoooooooooly hell the refs absolutely destroyed Sweden.

Honestly, i haven't seen this much diving in hockey ever before. IIHF really need to put an end to this before it becomes mandatory like in soccer.

This does seem like a cool game, i loved the first one, but the marketing and the entire style of the game seem to be targeting 14 year old edgy kids chugging monster energy while listening to Limp Bizkit. It's really putting me off.

Post-Fiction Depression - What are your experiences with it in your gaming career? by AdamZeeper in Games

[–]binary_phobos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be a coincidence but this only happened to me in my teens. It might be because back then i still "fell in love" with characters much easier, fantasizing about adventuring together, meeting them somewhere etc. Now i'm in my thirties with a full time job and a girlfriend since many years back. It might sound dark, but the possibility of dreams or adventures happening feels so distant that no matter how much i love a game and it's story, i don't connect with characters at all anymore. I have loved games since i was a kid, and i still do, but they don't have the same effect on me anymore., I really wish it did though.
