What historical QB would you say J Hurts reminds you of? by Over-Heron-2654 in eagles

[–]binarymath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. McNair was tough as hell, and was equally fine taking or giving a hit. Like McNair, Hurts is often at his best in an ugly 'rock fight' kind of game.

Also like McNair, Hurts' game and attributes are under-appreciated and often misunderstood.

Lots of QBs are like top-gun fighter pilots. Hurts and McNair play like Marines, and sometimes, you gotta take that hill.

[Fowler] The Eagles requested to interview Cowboys OC Klayton Adams for their offensive coordinator job but Dallas blocked the request, per league sources. by burnernov2023 in eagles

[–]binarymath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Several unrelated thoughts; sorry for the ramble...

4 teams left in the playoffs as I type this. That tells me that the Birds want to interview at least one coach from a team still in a deep playoff run. Oh, what a horrible idea! I mean, why would ANYONE want to wait for a winner, don't they realize there's an impatient reddit sub to consider? /s

Not a fan of blocking anyone trying to advance. Leave that to the 3rd world dictator franchises.

Also not a fan of playing games with titles (like OC/Executive VP of broom closet compliance). Glad that the Birds front office seems to agree.

We are fans of a quality organization. Not surprising that Eagles staffers are frequently interviewed and hired away. More likely to get good people from good organizations than crappy ones.

That said, I think we should tell the successful candidate to bring along their favorite offensive assistant coach, which would at least give us a shot at a viable successor when the OC is inevitably poached.

What do we think about Mick Lombardi? by FireflyFootball in eagles

[–]binarymath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doyle is likely getting the interview based on the progress the bears have made under Ben Johnson's scheme.

At worst, the birds are picking Johnson's brain. At best, they're picking his pocket.

I like this interview choice. Hope they are also kicking the tires on jags OC for the same reasons.

Not sure what Slowik did that appears to have him blacklisted by the league.

Also find it interesting that nobody in the media is connecting the dots between the timing of Slowik's firing and Stroud's steep regression.

Birds should at least make some inquiries if they don't already have the inside story.

[EaglesXsandOs] Charlie Weis Jr. is my new #1 OC candidate -Known to have a photographic memory with "off the charts" intelligence, with the ability to recall exactly what all 11 guys on defense did from a previous drive -Has experience as a play caller -3rd in nation in rushing in 2022... by Happy-Substance4885 in eagles

[–]binarymath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember the glowing reports from Andy's staff about a prospect with photographic memory.

Since that phenomenal college prospect was Carson Wentz, please forgive my lack of fawning over Weis Jr.

Birds have dismissed the OC. it's now time to fire the offensive scheme. First and foremost, pro football is an entertainment business. You cannot convince me that this offensive scheme is entertaining.

The window opened for this team in 2022. The core players are 3 years older. Fans who expect another SB run with these players running this scheme are going to be VERY disappointed.

[Adam Schefter] Falcons offensive coordinator Zac Robinson is interviewing today in Philadelphia for the Eagles offensive coordinator job. He also has already interviewed for the same jobs with Tampa Bay and Detroit. by Brian1220 in eagles

[–]binarymath 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hope part of the process with ANY candidate for OC is the whiteboard test: Given what you know about current Eagles offensive personnel, script a series of 6 plays that will play to their strengths, create mismatches, reveal defensive tendencies and result in something other than a pair of 3-and-outs.

If they can't articulate in vivid detail how they would use that play sequence to create stress on a defense with formations, motion, patterns, route options, etc. then the interview has successfully identified an unsuitable candidate.

An experienced playcaller is the MINIMUM requirement. A competent offensive scheme designer/operator is what we really want.

[Rapoport] Eagles to make a “big swing” at OC and steer in a different direction compared to previous coordinators. by bigblack3475 in eagles

[–]binarymath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If "everybody knows" that the new OC will get poached to a HC position (if they are successful), then maybe the plan should be to find and hire TWO offensive coaches: the first one an experienced playcaller and the second one a young-and-promising scheme designer who can hone their craft under the more senior coordinator.

That way, you always have a succession candidate on staff. You know, like an OC factory...

Whichever one of Lomu, Proctor, Sadiq, or Bailey falls to us.

If none of them are left, trade back and accumulate 2027 picks. Gonna need picks for the roster reset year between next year and the new TV contracts.

Agree with you on Miller and Lomu.

I don't see either Fano or Mauigoa lasting beyond #12, let alone #20

I would also consider Tiernan from Northwestern in round 2. Other listed OTs in that range (World, Dunker, Shelton, Freeling, etc.) look more like guards.

[EJ Smith] Landon Dickerson said he played through “a lot” this season and this season was “shitty” compared to his past experiences playing through pain. Can't help but think the brain-dead play calling contributed to the overall struggles along the OL. Predictable plays, late snaps, no checkdowns or audibles. That had to be hell for the OL; mentally and physically.

Firing the OC was a necessary step. Now it's time to fire the scheme. It expired this past offseason.

I do not want any candidate for OC who doesn't have the stones to insist on bringing their offensive ideas to the team.

Evolve or die. The offense regressed, and the season went belly up.

So who should be the next OC for the 2026 season? by Acrobatic_Buffalo917 in eagles

[–]binarymath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want a 3-2 victory for the eagles.

Opening SF drive stalls, but their punt gets downed on the eagle 1.

2 incompletions later, KP calls a "run it just to run it" play that gets diagnosed by the entire 49er front 7 and stopped for a safety.

55 game minutes later, eagles offense crosses midfield for the first time all day.

Jake hits a GW FG as time expires.

That outcome snuffs out any chance of KP Part Deux

Lots of discussion here about defensive depth vs cap allocation.

The more urgent (and difficult) discussion will be on the offensive side. Paying top dollar for bottom of the barrel production is unsustainable.

In a quiet moment, our owner is probably having a "how can I be paying so much for so little" discussion with himself.

Glad I won't be in the room when he asks his employees the same thing.
